1. Does your child wear clip-on sunglasses or anything to help protect them from the sun? Where did you find child sized clip-ons? Are they dorky looking?

2. Do you have your child wear a strap or anything on their glasses when riding roller coasters & other fast rides? Thanks!

My DS has worn glasses since he was 14 months old. When he was younger, we ordered the clip-on sunglasses from the glasses place. (They weren't cheap, but they were worth it.) They matched the shape of his regular glasses so they weren't too dorky looking.

He's almost 7 now and for the last few years he hasn't wanted to wear the clip-ons (I don't know why.) So now he wears a sun hat or visor. He seems to be willing to do that.

He's been fine wearing his glasses on most rides at WDW, but if we go on something a little more wild this time, I think we'll probably just take them off and stash them in our bag until the ride is over. That's what DH does with his, too. (And what I did with mine when I was little.)

DS has had glasses since 6 mo. Very premature and some major eye damage. We too bought the really good clip ons at the eye center where he goes to his eye doctor. They can be a little hard to find as the eye center in our home town where we get his glasses did not carrry them. They look fine. A lot better than the cute plastic glass that most kids wear and DS insisted a few times that we buy and he wore those over his glasses!!!;)

The best thing that we did however was to allow DS to go to contact as soon as his dr allowed it. With really diminished vision, it made a huge difference and we LOVE not having to deal with glasses. Even infants can wear them though only really poor vision infants are given that choice. As a parent, you have to take a lot more of the responcibility than you would if your child was older and it does cost more, but can be a wonderful experence for some children. I wish we had done it earlier.

Ds usually wears a strap on his glasses if he rides a rough ride, but last year we forgot to bring the strap to the MK and I didn't realize it until we were getting settled in our Space Mountain seats. I was worried about his glasses during the ride, but they stayed on his face OK.

We've never had any problems with glasses at WDW. The straps are nice because they add a little extra security.

My 10 year old daughter started wearing glasses in first grade. Last year, we got her (I forget what they're called) the lenses that change from clear to sunglasses when you go outside. She loves them - and LOVES not having to remember to bring prescription sunglasses or clip-ons. They're perfect for school - she has recess outside in mostly full sun, so she never has to worry about switching to - or misplacing - sunglasses.

They weren't too expensive as compared to regular glasses. She has always been fine w/glasses on rollercoasters, etc. If she feels a ride might be too fast, she might take them off and have me put them in the case - but usually she wears them and they're fine.

DS has photosensitive lenses. Simplest solution all 'round. He also has tinted Rx goggles for swimming and water sports.

He wears a Croakie on coasters and similar rides with big drops.

Have the photosensitive lenses improved a lot? (I suppose they have.) When I was young, I knew a couple of kids who had them and it took a long time for them to change when you went from one situation to the other. (So they'd often have to take them off for a while after they went indoors, or it was like wearing sunglasses indoors.) Of course, this was 20 years ago... but I haven't really considered them for my DS because I know that "lag" would drive him nuts. Do they change pretty quickly now?
