Believe it is only the other way around. 2.0 cups have the thing on it that the sensor is looking for on 2.0 machines. Original machines aren't looking for anything, so they should work fine.
It might not be since there are some oversized pods designed to brew 30 oz. The single cups can be used any Keurig brewer.
There's controversy over the labels on the Keurig 2.0 ("Keurig Brewed" cups). They claim that they include information on them to help individualize the brewing process, but they effectively lock out the use of other pods that haven't been licensed. There are some workarounds. It's some code on the label that's read by the machine.
That's quite a difference in the size of the pods! My sis has an original type Keurig & the pods I bought for her say 2.0. I'm hoping that these pods (Torani brand) will work on the old style.

Torani makes K-Cups? I looked it up, and they're made by a partner of Torani, and they're not licensed by Keurig. They don't say Keurig or "K-Cup" anywhere. What I've seen is that they say "2.0 Compatible". They probably found some workaround with the label reading system. A licensed Keurig 2.0 single cup will say "KEURIG BREWED" on the label.
The company that sells it doesn't make any mention of Keurig or their various trademarks, although some of the retailers mention its compatibility with Keurig systems. It looks compatible to me.
The old machines are "dumb". I've never owned one but have used many over the years in hotels and waiting rooms. Heck - I tried running one without a pod and it just flushed water through the machine. The new machines should at the least make sure there's something in there before cycling, although they're supposed to check for more than just that.
