Question about items not permitted in the parks

I have a question regarding one item that is not permitted in the parks. "Professional cameras". What specifically is a "professional camera". That description is too vague. My dh has a good digital SLR. Is that a "professional camera"?

Many people bring SLR's into the park. He'll be fine.

They were mainly having tizzy fits, for a month or so, about people with big, removeable, lenses. It all seemed to hit the proverbial fan shortly after a bunch of pictures were taken of Lindsay Lohan and...I'm totally blanking on her ex girlfriend's name, the DJ...last Halloween at Disneyland. I figure the paparazzi stuff got out of hand, and they decided to draw some length-of-lens line in the sand.

No one has complained about it recently here or the other boards I play on...

I remember reading on another posting that your detached lens has to be under 6 inches.

I was one of those going last year around Halloween and being scared. That was right after the reports on the boards here came up that some were refused entry. My camera's lens is slightly over the limit that someone was quoted. Not sure anymore if it was six inches.

I tried calling Disneyland to find out what's up. I was thrown around from A to B, then to C and back to A for almost 2 hours. Nobody had any definite info. Most of the CMs didn't even know the policy had changed.

When I came to the parks with my camera I was fine. Nobody cared. I got a comment exactly once at bag check, and that was: "Oh, you got a camera in there too." Everyone at bag check was more concerned about my pin trading bag than my camera.

You'll be fine as long as you look enough like a tourist.

It's really just a rule to keep out the paparzzi. It is not strictly enforced unless, well, you're a paparazzo.

Didn't somebody mention in a previous thread about prohibiting large mouse-traps.

I carried in a DSLR, backpack full of lenses, and tripod with no problem. They were more concerned that my tripod was indeed a tripod and not a chair as the portable chairs for camping, etc., fit in tripod bags and the chairs are prohibited.
