Question about how to use AAA discount

My Stepfather made his room-only reservation for December via Disney.com and asked me today how he could use his AAA to get a discount on the room.

I -thought- you could just call up and tell them you have AAA and they'd apply the discount to the existing reservation (and show proof of AAA at check-in?), but the CM said that he'd have to cancel this reservation and make a new one either over the phone or through AAA.

Now, I'm confused because I thought they could apply AAA discounts to an existing reservation and I also thought that if a better discount comes out for December (fingers crossed!) that they could use the better discount code. Now, I'm questioning whether I'm right at all. I never used a AAA discount, only the value season discount codes so I'm new to how this works. Any advice would be appreciated! Is the CM right?

I had the exact same problem - the CM I spoke to said she would have to cancel my reservation and make a new one! I told her I never had to do that before when applying AAA discount and she just said, "well I am sorry but I cannot apply it to your existing room, I need to start new" (!) :confused3 :confused3

I know! It just doesn't make any sense! Hopefully, somebody knows something about this. :goodvibes

You can't do it if you make the room only reservation using the web site. If you made the original reservation by phone, then they could apply the AAA discount, if one is available for you. There are some odd rules that take effect when you make room only reservations using the web site. This is one, another is that you can't make payments on the reservation, only the deposit. The rest must be paid when you check in.

If you have a room only ressie, the AAA room discount can only be applied IF there are rooms still available for that exact time period at that exact same resort with the AAA discount. There are only a specified number of rooms per resort with AAA discount per any time period. If there are no discounted rooms left, and you need to change resorts or dates then they would need to cancel one ressie and create a new one. There are not an unlimited number of discounted rooms. If you were to add tickets or anything like that, then it falls under pkg guidelines and would have to be done with AAA directly.Room only can be done thru disney.

A room only res made online has an 8 digit number. AAA room only res's are 12 digit numbers. It does have to be canceled and rebooked. Not really a big deal though, youre not losing anything

Even if you have to cancel and re-book, you should go with AAA. I'm getting a 20% discount!
