Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I saw someone post in the community area and they suggested she post in Families, so I thought I'd start here.

My dd wll start kindergarten in the fall and I'm seriously considering home schooling. Our public school is a brand new school, so I'm not sure how it will be. We have a wonderful private Christian school near us, but it's very expensive. I would love to home school, but I want to make sure I get my hands on as much info as possible.

I've searched the internet and I've come across so much that it's overwhelming. I know each state is different and I looked up Kentucky's laws. Does anyone happen to be from KY that could share their experience?

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

Around here, opening a new school is a BIG deal.... wonderful facilities, newest technology (computers that are current), most up to date texts, everything bright and shiny! The only downside can be filling in the library for the first year or so. Teachers often want to move to a new school so the staff is usually very good. The key seems to be the principle - if you hear good things about that person in my experience things usually go quite well in a new elementary school (opening a new HS is where the challenges really escalate). Plus it's kind of special to be the first kindergarten class to go thru all grades in a new school - they did something special at DS's school the year their first kindergarten class left at the end of 5th grade. Don't mean to discourage you from HS'ing but not sure I'd take that approach JUST because you have a new school...

Good luck!

Anyway, when you say your public school is a brand new school, what exactly do you mean? The school itself is new? If that's the case, I wouldn't worry - our district is building a new school and will be staffed with many teachers from established schools. The school board hired a principal months ago (the school will open in August) and she's already meeting with the teachers. They won't be starting out as if no one has ever taught a class before - the school will follow the same guidelines as other schools in our district.

And if you aren't referring to brand new construction in an established district, I'm curious to know what you mean. What part of the state do you live in?

We homeschool in KY. We live in Central KY, Lexingtonish area. I will send you a PM with my email addie.

A new school is no big deal. Everyone seems to think its a *huge* deal we have a new early learning place for special needs and young kids and I didn't send my daughter. Oh well :confused3

I had someone at my aunts church say to me a few weeks ago "You must not live in XXX county." I said "Excuse me?" She said "I work at XXX school and I have never seen your daughter." I said "We do in fact live in XXX county. However, we choose to homeschool!" She was like "oh" Hahaha... poor lady.

We have quite a few homeschooling groups in our area. Some I love... others not so much. If you need to know laws, or just want support, just yell!
