Question about Harnesses

We got the Harness Buddies from Target for our DD and DS a couple of weeks ago. They have the dog and the bear. DD(3) wants to wear hers around the house all the time, but we haven't tried putting DS(17 months) on yet. Try to get him to think of it as a toy. The leash part of ours is the animal's tail which is cute. DD says it is for Mommy and Daddy not to get lost.

This was one of my first post some 3 years ago and I was bashed like crazy!! Good luck on keeping this friendly. A few years back I did have a harness for my DD now 6. I thought she'd run away from me, but she ended up being afraid to turn her head and loose me in the sea of Disney travelers. To make the Harness fun I let my DD pick it out, and she enjoyed being in one - she thought it was some kind of game. Today my DD is so grown I wish I could loose her - she thinks she's a cheetah girl!! Just kidding of course!

What I did for our first trip with my 2 yr old DS was to rig a small waist pack with one of the leashes off of a harness. He could carry some stuff in his pouch, and it wasnt hot. When we didnt need to use it, I just tucked the leash part in the back of his shirt collar. It was out of view in photos and an easy grab if I needed it in a hurry.

Thanks for all of the great info! We are heading to to WW in February with my now VERY active and VERY independent 19 month old. I can already picture the showdowns we are going to have over the stroller since her big sister will be running around having a good old time.

Funny - before I had kids and even before having my second child I kind of thought harnesses were "mean." I always thought - "they have to learn to stay with you and a harness won't do that." BUT my second DD is SO much different from her sister. She is a wild, headstrong maniac and I now totally see the need for a harness! She often refuses to hold my hand in a busy place and will throw herself on the ground and have a tantrum. So I wind up picking her up and explaining to her over and over and over again that if she can't hold hands she will be carried.

I am seriously considering buying a harness and bringing it along "just in case." I don't want her independence to ruin the trip for everyone else
