question about handicap scooter's

Hi everyone ! Just wondering if anyone has ever used those handicap scooter's in the parks? How much $ ? I have a mom who has had hip replacement surgery and would get to tired walking all day. If you park hop during the day, can you still use another scooter at the next park, or do you have to re-register again etc??? any info would be greatly appreciated

Your best bet would be to rent one from one of the medical supply places like CARE. We have done that several times, and they have it (the ECV) waiting for you at your resort when you arrive, and you pick it up at the front desk. You drop it off the same place when you check out. It was super easy to take it on the bus, and the bus driver will help load it with the little lift and strap it in. It was a life saver for me when I was recouperating a couple of years ago, and also for our future DIL who was recovering from a broken back. I think the last time we rented one it was about $200 for the week, but that was a couple years ago, so it's likely more now. Still a good deal, in my book!

I think renting them in the parks is something like $25-$35 a day, but not sure about that. We just found that having it all the time was so easy. I do know that one time when we rented from CARE, we only had it for 5 days, and that was very reasonably priced as well. Call the resort directly, and they can give you the information on the different rental places.

There is a forum on the DIS called disAbilities and at the top of the page is a sticky with info on the different companies that rent scooters.

Scooters in the park cost $40.00 but you get $5 back when you return it.

Diane's suggestions are great. When you rent in the parks, you take a chance they may not have one at another park later in the day. If you parkhop you show your paperwork and they will give you scooter (if they have one available). You can also get your deposit back when you turn your "new" scooter in.

If you know you're going to need one, I would rent it for the week

mother hates these things. scooters, electricity wheelchairs, ecv - you name it - if it means power she will find something to dislike.

she likes to be pushed.

you can get a free wheelchair at any WDW resort - just ask bell services/front desk.

they also have the electric type - but there is a charge for them.

if you can handle the electric type go for it.... if you can't I would just get a free one from the resorts.

you can handle yourself in a free one - I did for the first time we used a wheelchair (I had surgery 3 weeks before that visit) - if nothing is wrong with your arms, shoulders or hands. No one has to push you.
