Question about GTY

If you book one of these GTY rates, I understand you can't make any changes. But, can you decided to upgrade later from say an IGT to an OGT and pay the difference? Also, are you still eligible to go to the upgrade desk at the port to pay for an upgrade?

If you book a special-offer such as IGT, OGT or VGT -- no changes. You can upgrade at port pending availability, but I do not believe you can upgrade prior.

If you book a "regular" GTY -- such as 8A GTY or 5B GTY -- those can be changed without penalty at any point prior to PIF. You can upgrade to a higher category, downgrade to a lower category, remove guests or add guests (based on availability). Anything after the PIF date will incur penalty based on how close to the sail date. You can upgrade at port.

I booked OGT as that was all that was available on the cruise we could go on (we were supposed to be on the cancelled 10/7 Dream) the day I was looking. The next day I looked again for some reason and there was a VGT rate. I called immediately and asked if I could switch my reservation to VGT and pay the difference. Since it was within 24-48 hours and no assignments were done, etc, I thought there might be a chance. I was told that I could not change anything until port. I will ask when we get there, but if there is no available upgrade to purchase, we will just be happy to finally sail!
