Question about granite kitchen countertops?

I think we almost went with washed cabinets. They look a little worn on the edges (the paint is "rubbed" i think), the paint isn't even. We went with dark cherry cabinets and love them.

As far as choosing something that will stay "in"--I don't think that is possible! I just stayed with neutral colors in things that will stay forever, and painted my walls trendy colors. I have a feeling granite will always look classy, as long as its not teal green or a color that could go out of style.

I am DEFINITELY with you on this. We are going to sell this house (be it tomorrow or 5 years from now I don't know, though). What you said has been running through my mind quite a bit. How do we know if granite will look totally dated in a few years or not It seems like a good chunk of change to plunk down based on the hope that it's not a trend that has run it's course.

I also have granite and just want to echo, granite is here to stay and is now earmarked as the "desired upgrade". You cannot go wrong with it.

Last year we put a house on the market with blue countertops. Everyone commented on them, and not for the better. Our realtor pleaded with us to change them to a nuetral color. After finally taking her advice, we put in nuetral and the house sold in 2 weeks. The comments we got were that blue was too late 70's early 80's. But, if you will not be selling your house ever, put the blue in! (I hope not of offend you, as personally blue is a very pretty color, I just wanted to tell you what happened to us. (we had light maple cabinets-really light)

I'm not offended. It's a personal choice, I know. I just don't want to be decorating for the next people to own this house...we just moved in! The last people lived here 35 years. All the appliances now are brown.

And I probably won't be doing granite. It's out of the budget. This is a on the cheap kitchen redo. We'll most likely go with Formica or granite tile.
