Not sure if I have posted this on the right thread, but...

Does anyone have any information on the "Grand Avdeventures in Cooking" program for kids at GF? Do any of you have children that have done this, and if yes, did they like it? My boys will be 7 1/2 and almost 6. We have already done the Pirate Adventure and I thought this might be fun for them as well. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

I had looked into this for my ds, but thought he'd much rather do the pirate cruise, which I have scheduled for next wed. ~~ I'm sorry to hijack your thread, but could you tell me a little more about it, since your boys have done it. You are right, finding info on either of these is very scarce. I appreciate it, and hope someone else can answer your question. Thanks

My DD has done all 3 of the Grand Adventures. The Adventures in cooking was probably her least favorite, but I think that was because she was 9 and most of the other children were younger. Each of the kids received a chef's hat with Mickey ears and decorated an apron with handprints. They worked to make worms & dirt, then handed them out to people in the lobby. The pirates cruise involved them going to the different MK resorts looking for the treasure. They had a snack, but I don't remember what it was and then found the treasure. My DD enjoyed it a lot because it was an adventure.

My daughter did this in June, she was 4 at the time and enjoyed it VERY much! She wants to go back and do it again! they made worms and dirt pudding(Sam made the dirt!) and then got to pass them out to all the parents and GF Cafe dinners! I belive it's only done on Tuesdays and Fridays!

My ds is 5, and he was a pirate for halloween, he LOVES the pirates of the carribean movie....... he thinks he's a pirate!! LOL, so I know he will love it. When I booked it, they said they eat lunch, ( pb&j and some snacks) they said that he is required to wear tennis shoes, no sandals! They pretty much explained what would happen, they go to the different marina's and search for treasure. I was just hoping to get a little more insight. It's good to hear that your dd enjoyed it. Do you think most of the kids are around his age? I know up to age 10 can do it.

Thanks!!

My DS10 and DS7 did the Grand Adventures in Cooking on our trip in 2002 and didn't enjoy it too much. I don't know if it was an off day for the CMs or what but all they did was watch a video, make their hats and aprons and frost gingerbread cookies(that were all ready made and over cooked). They were told that there would be a story and that they would get to make(cook) something. Also, we booked the pirate cruise on that trip and the one we just returned from and both times it was cancelled because the weather was too cold. This last time they at least did an inside treasure hunt, but it didn't last as long and was not as exciting. I think that my kids would have rather cancelled. They did offer us the option, to cancel without penalty, since they were not going out on the boat. Obviously, they can't control the weather and I'm not disapopointed about the fact that it was cancelled. I just think that we made the wrong decision to do it indoors or they could have tried a little harder to make the indoor one more exciting.

My DD4 also did the Wonderland Tea Party this last trip and had a good time. However, I have been disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm by the CMs in these programs. They really didn't seem to be enjoying their jobs.

Well, it sounds as if maybe we should skip the Grand Adventures in Cooking for our boys.

Wendypooh: My boys did the Pirate Cruise this November. They were just turned 7 and a little over 5. They both enjoyed it a ton. You meet over at the GF marina and your DS will get a pirate "hat" with Mickey ears. It is really more of a bandana that they tie on. Then they go around the Seven Seas lagoon and Bay lake searching for treasure. They got PB&J (Uncrustables), gummi bears, chips(?) and a juice. They also returned with a treasure box. They unlock the treasure chest once they have returned to the GF and inside is bag for everyone. The goody bag contained little toys and trinkets. My boys did have a great time. Later on when we were returning to WL and had to stop at FW, they pointed things out to us that they had learned on the Pirate Cruise. Very cute. Heck, maybe they will want to do that again. Or maybe a day a Disneyquest. :D

The Grand Adventure in Cooking was not. The kids decorated an apron and a hat and watched Mary Poppins! Then they decorated already baked cookies.

They passed out the cookies in front of the Grand Floridian Cafe. They didn't even go out into the Grand Lobby. My DGD said it was okay, so that means she hated it.

She did however, love her hat and apron. She couldn't wait to show it to Chef Dick.

Mickeyfliers - THANK YOU!!! I think my little boy will love it!! I've been looking at the weather, and wed. looks like it will be perfect. I"m hoping so. My ds is so excited, he asked if he could bring his halloween costume to wear!!! LOL (he was a pirate). I just hope he has some good CM's. I appreciate the info about it. It's strange, you'd think Disney would go into a little more detail. I will let everyone know how it goes when we get back!!!

Thanks again for all the great info.......... that's why I love this board!

Ok, now i'm a little worried. I have DS booked for the pirate cruise the Monday of our trip and Grand Adv. in cooking on Tuesday. Now I'm thinking, should I cancel the cooking and use the 30.00 for something else. Is there anyone who's child really liked it. I'm sure he'll LOVE the pirate cruise. What do all you helpful people think? BTW DS is 6 1/2

Mel,

I considered both as well, but I think since my ds LOVES pirates, the cruise will be so much better for him. I had considered the cooking one, because he likes to help out in the kit. but from what I've read, I changed my mind........ I think if most of the little girls don't like it, then he really won't!!! Is that too ( sexist??) LOL.......

For us, we are using the extra to add more souvenirs, LOL

OH, if you haven't planned it, do chef mickeys....... we love it, and are doing it monday!!

Thanks for the info. I'm beginning to agree. I think I may use the money for the Neverland Club so DH and I can have another meal alone. DH and I have been to Chef Mickey's, we enjoyed it, but DS will only eat a piece of toast for breakfast and I'm afraid more wasted money.
