Question about going down a category

I have already made my final payment but notice there is availability in a category that is lower than I'm booked. Can I go down?

There are 2 of us and I had booked a category 4 to have a plexiglass verandah instead of a category 6 guarantey. Now a specific category 6 is open.

What do you think??

Thanks
Kathy

I'm patiently waiting for a reply from my TA. It would really be great for the finances. The only problem is that its a connecting room but for a $1200 credit I'd gladly listen to a little extra noise.

Thanks

If you are within the time period for which you will be peneltized for canceling the cruise, then there will be a per-person change fee (the fee could be dependant on how close to sail date you are since a part of the reason for the fee is to cover their costs if they have to have your docs reprinted and reshipped). Of course you will also have to pay today's prevailing rate for the lower catagory room. So other than fees and the change in rates since you last booked, DCL will refund any overages.

I have the greatest TA on the planet earth. She got it done. Now I have an extra $1100 to spend on whatever else.

So just so you know it can be done.

BTW, depending upon when you booked the higher catagory room, a lower catagory room could be MORE expensive.

As an example, I booked a Cat 6 for the Western Repo the day they started taking reservations. When I look at prices online this morning, a Cat 9 currently cost about $100 MORE today than my Cat 6.

The only charge was $25 each. The prices were exactly the same because I booked very late anyway.

Littlemuffin,
So glad it worked out for you!

For anyone else considering doing this - I'm not sure you always have to pay the prevailing rate for changes.

I booked a cabin, decided to downgrade to save some $$, then changed my mind again and switched back to the category I had originally booked. (never claimed being decisive was a strength)
:confused3

Anyway, this was on the repo cruise where rates were jumping almost hourly that first day and I made the changes several months after that. My current rate is the same I had when I booked the first hour the day booking opened.

Of course HooKooDooKu may be right about the official policy - or this may be one of the changes they made recently - but I was able to keep the same rate level I had at booking, even with changes, just within the last couple of months.

Just didn't want anyone else who might be considering it to not even try.

Hey HooKooDooKu - we're getting closer to sail date! We definitely got a deal over where prices are now that first day - gotta love that!
See you onboard!
