We do not have internet usage on our cell phones. If we do access the internet (and I will strangle anyone in my family that does) we will pay by the minute. My son wants to buy a game or two for his cell phone. Do games on a cell require internet access? If it says the cost is $6.99 to download the game, is that the final price or will he rack up data charges everytime he plays? Also, will the initial download require internet usage? A cell phone to me is nothing more than a phone so I am totally clueless about this stuff.

don't know but you haven't said who your carrier is. It might be effected by that. As for playing the game, he shouldn't rack up charges that way. Make sure it's not a subscription service too. Nephew downloaded a game on son's phone, not too big of an issue until it became a recurring $5 monthly charge. Found out it was a service.

We put games on our phone using a fire-wire before (on a motorola razr and htc touch). Maybe see if it can be done that way first? It can be a bit involved but something tells me a kid can do it easier than an adult. ;)

Thanks! We have AT&T.

Yes it will. Ds11 make the mistake of downloading 4 FREE games, and it cost close to $30. Dd13 and I are the only ones with internet access.

I'm sure someone will chime in on that. We have sprint. If no one does, I can ask my brother in law, I know he has AT&T.

i don't have internet access on my phone, but i have AT&T wireless and DSL at home through AT&T. i go online at home to the AT&T site, choose the game i want, and it is sent to my cell phone. the only charge i incur is the cost of the game. you can also do ringtones and wallpapers this way. HTH!

This is what a friend told me. She said if we do it from the website, there isn't any type of additional charge. On the other hand, some people are saying there is a charge. I wonder if some games require internet access and others don't?

I think it depends on the type of game. Some games actually play against other random people....those will incur data charges. Games that you just play yourself USUALLY don't....just the initial download cost.

I just did a live chat with an AT&T agent. He said it would depend on the game but assured me that before buying a game, it would say if internet access was required. My son wants to buy Uno. It doesn't say anything about internet charges but it says you can play against the computer or friends. I can't imagine you can play against friends without incurring extra charges.

I am not sure if it matters anyway. My son said the game was only $2.99. He is right but he missed the fact that it is per month!
