Question about GAD and ID's.

We went Tuesday and they accepted her Insurance card. I explained what happened at the BMV and told her I brought what I had. I was so thrilled that she accepted it. We had a wonderful time and the kids loved it.

That's great news Thanks for following up too... it's nice to know what happened in cases like these.

Also, I think you have a typo in your signature... unless you're planning a trip in the year 2440

Ok, I have a question about birth certificates.

When it says a "copy" of a birth certificate: can I use a Xerox copy that I made from the original, or do I have to have an actual, with-a-raised-seal certified copy of their birth certificates?

I'd feel better about having to stuff a copy of the b. cert. in my purse all day while at WDW -- rather than wrinkling up the original.

i think a photo copy is just fine.

I did the brilliant thing of going to the Social Security Admin office the day before I was to start my new job, and found out it would take 10 days to get a new card. Years ago, they printed it right on the spot.
Thankfully it wasn't a big deal, I showed the "receipt" letter. And then showed it to him when it came in the mail.

yikes...did not read about ID for kids under 18. My 6 year old has a foreign birth certificate - will a copy of this be OK? I guess if you read Russian you will be OK - no numbers, everything is spelled out on it. I do have a translated copy that has numbers though.

We took our Girl Scout troop to Disneyland to use our GAD tickets and had id/birth certificate copies for 22 of the 23 people (we had the 23rd-just couldn't figure out where it was?!) They hassled us and took 2 hours matching birth certificate to computer to voucher processing every single ticket then told us the poor little girl without a copy of her birth certificate would not be allowed a ticket.
She was an annual pass holder and they pulled up her picture and pass info (it was a blackout day) and STILL wouldn't budge. I spoke with 2 different supervisors before finally getting someone with a heart who issued a comp ticket with no $$ value so that she could go. The funny thing is-a birth certificate doesn't show a picture or verify ID-anyone can have a copy of a birth certificate matching a name- they had her actual photo in their system and KNEW it was her and still would not use that as ID.
I would highly recommend you bring exactly what you need, it was not a fun 2 hrs outside the gates with 17 anxious 10 yr olds! (or don't take your scout troop to Disneyland...it was quite an experience!)

BTW she found her birth certificate in her backpack later that day...oops!

In many states it is illegal to make copies of a birth certificate.

There are also states where Notaries can not stamp a copy of a birth certificate as a true copy.
(Florida being one state where a notary can not notarize a BC as being a copy)

I made a photocopy of the kids' birth certificates as well as their passports--no issues at all.

Did you not formally adopt this child?

Our youngest is a foreign adoption but as soon as our adoption went through he has been re-issued a birth certificate listing us as the parents and he had to get a US Passport as part of the process.

Not all foreign adoptions require finalization in the United States. If both parents travel (or just the one in the case of a single parent) the adoption may be finalized in the foreign country, depending on the exact requirements of that country.

My daughter's adoption was finalized in China. I chose to then do a "re-adoption" here in CA because I wanted a US adoption certificate and birth certificate just to avoid the translation hastle. But I did not have to - I know many CA parents who adopted from China but did not do a re-adoption. The state is perfectly fine with those parents doing nothing, because they recognize the Chinese adoption and the Chinese birth certificate.

Our 15 yr old exchange student had a passport for his ID. It was not a problem. And my husband and I used a drivers license. I was going to get state issues photo ID's for the kids before we left too but obviously had problems.

I am so thankful that the cast member who helped us was so understanding.
