Does anyone know the average % the cost of staying at a Disney resort increases yearly? Or have a suggestion of what I should use as a guideline? The only reason I am inquiring is I am trying to make a savings tracker for myself for a trip I am planning in 2021. I want to be able to factor in the increased cost of staying on property in my savings. I tried to google it but I couldn't find anything. Also, hope this is the correct place to ask this.

I really love this website: web.archive.org

I use it to find older webpages that may no longer exist. I was able to find the mousesavers.com webpages for rack rates going back as far as 2001. At that time, there were fewer "seasons" and only the AllStar Resorts at the Value level. So, as a point of reference a room at a Value a Resort was $77/night + 12% tax during "value season" and rates went as high as $109/night + 12% tax during holiday season. At that time, all rooms at The AllStars were considered standard views/locations.

Fast forward to 2019 rack rates...the lowest rate for a value season room at ASMu would be $112/night, including tax with the highest rack rate being $217/night (tax included) during holiday season.

So there ya go! The price increase for an 18-year time span for a Value Resort. I'll let you do the math or look up the other resorts if you need more data points.

Remember this as well too, used to when Disney released their rack rates for the following year, they stayed put. Not anymore. They can and have been raising them ever so quietly throughout the year for I think a couple of years now.

This!

Plus, Disney has been creating additional views or locations at every resort in order to get more money for the most requested room locations. They have gone from just 4 " seasons" (Value, Regular, Summer and Holiday) to somewhere in the range of 17 different "seasons". They have also created a hierarchy within resort categories (WL and GF are both "Deluxe" resorts but guess which one has the bigger price tag). And rumor has it that they will be eliminating the resort categories entirely in favor of more individualized pricing. One can expect POP and AoA prices to reflect their new status once the Skyliner opens.

All of this makes it very difficult to calculate actual price increases over the years and then to project those calculations on future rates.

Plus, I would also keep in mind that there is the possibility of resorts fees being added in the future. May or may not happen by 2021, but the parking fees that many predicted came to fruition.

I will say it is somewhat impressive some of the ideas Disney can come up with to charge more money for the same room. I would have never in a million years thought of charging more for the "5th sleeper room" at POR. I know when our family of four stayed there years ago, I really wanted to stay in the AB section, and I was allowed to after they changed our room from MB at check in. No problems what so ever. But now, they could actually make you pay for that "upgrade" that was before of no charge, if your party consists of four or less, correct? Now if you are on a room only reservation I imagine all you would have to do it just put down a "ghost" guest under the age of 18 to be certain of placement in AB, but that wouldn't work with a package, correct?
