Question about Free Internet Access

This says to me that anyone who is staying on points (and probably cash if booked through MS) will get the free internet.

This makes perfect sense to me - apparently it just isn't worth it to Disney/DVC to try to figure out who is an actual DVC Member.

I think that you are correct. It seems consistent with the way they have managed other DVC perks.

Answering my own question... I full suspect that I will not get free internet for any reservations that I book on inbound II exchanges. For example... I will be in SSR from 12/27 - 1/3 using points, and from 1/3 - 1/10 using an II inbound exchange. I suspect that I will not get free internet for the second portion of my stay. I suspect that they "MIGHT" drop the charges at the front desk if I demonstrate that I am a DVC member... and that the internet sign in page says that service is free to DVC members. Personally... I don't really care as exchanging in saves me 10X the cost of internet... and plus, I have an air card.

I will note that when we were staying at OKW during an II exchange... my daughter was able to show the blue member card to get free movies, even though our room key did not say "DVC Member" for that portion of our stay.

We made a reservation for my parents in their name using our points and their keycard DID say DVC MEMBER

When I rented points from a stranger our cards always said DVC Member.

I was told that Members and Guests of Members staying on points will get free internet. Members booking a cash discount room at a DVC resort will not. Non DVC Members staying at a DVC Resort through CRO will not receive free internet.

I believe the manager told you that members booking a cash discount room at a DVC resort will not get the discount. But I don't believe that is how it will end up in practice, especially if members pay for their stay with points & cash combined.

I don't bring a laptop on vacation and so far have not booked a cash room through MS, but I am still interested to see how this plays out. Guess we'll know for sure in a few months.

Wow! I didn't expect such a flood of responses! Thank you to everyone.

From reading your posts, I'm guessing that since everything is linked to the room key ID and the room was booked for us through a DVC member, we'll probably end up with free Internet. However, just in case it doesn't turn out this way, I'll simply budget for the service anyway.

I just returned from 2 nights at BWV on rented points. I tried out the internet access just expecting to pay the 9.99, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that when my folio arrived there was no charge! So it looks like any reservation made on points will receive the internet for free. I just wish it were wireless!

We just stayed at OKW (May 6-9) on points as guests of a member, and we WERE charged the fee, even though when we called the front desk to ask if we would be charged, they said no. We did not press the issue, because we thought that maybe because our names were not the ones on the DVC member's contract, we didn't qualify for the free Internet. I guess we should have asked for the fee to be removed.

So keep an eye on your bill!
