I am in a wedding and am flying with my bridesmaid dress in tow. I could not find a garment bag that would work (mainly based on me waiting until the last minute thinking this was an easy thing to find  ) Will the airline allow me to carry it on in just the plastic cover that I got from David's Bridal??

i dont see why not, but you might want to get a better cover more for your own piece of mind so the dress doesn't get marked in the plane or airport. you might want to phone your airline to check though

The answer should be yes -- as long as the gown will fit in the overhead compartment on your airplane. Definitely do as Karentan said and contact your airline in advance.

I bought my vow renewal dress at David's. They had a zippered garment bag for purchase at the register that was approximately $10 or $20. I used that bag to put my dress in, and then I rolled the entire thing up and stuffed it inside my carry-on bag. It worked out well. Here are a few photos:

Perhaps you could ask your David's to contact another David's in the area to see if they have that item in stock. It might be worth a shot.

By the way, one of my connecting flights did NOT allow luggage in their overhead compartments (it was a puddle-jumper type of commuter plane that was used at the last minute). I held my breath as my carry-on bag was taken from me and placed into the cargo hold. It was nerve-wracking and I didn't dare breathe again until we landed and that bag was handed to me. Luckily, on the next leg of my journey, my carry-on bag was allowed on the plane. ~Phew!~ ;)

When you get on the plane, ask if you can hang it in the 1st class compartment. They are more than willing to accommodate the instant to you say it's for a wedding.
