I've been with my son all evening, and it turns out he has the flu. If I were to get the flu shot tomorrow, could I dodge the bullet? Or is it too late?

I end up getting everything my family gets.

Too late for the shot but not for Tamiflu, and your son can still get it too, I think you need to start it with 48 hours or something like that. We were all on it twice last year and it really did appear to help with none of the side effects I read about. They give it to people with the Flu and people who are in the house with, or caregivers of Flu patients.

Do you know what strain he has? About a month ago, we were hit pretty hard with type A flu in our community. At my daughter's cheer gym, there were over 75 kids that tested positive for A.

Several docs, including our pediatrician said that this strain was not in the flu shot, hence so many people in our gym getting it.

My son tested positive for type-A flu, had a 104.5 fever for 3 days and the docs would not prescribe Tamiflu. A lot of other docs in the area wouldn't prescribe it either.

We were told that this strain is pretty resistant to Tamiflu (due to over-prescribing last year during the swine flu scare) and that the doctors are not prescribing Tamiflu for healthy individuals. They don't want the bug to get more resistant and so they were saving Tamiflu for people with compromised immune systems and people hospitalized.

Yes, they did give him Tamiflu, but didn't offer it to anyone close to him.

And I never heard about it making the flu resistant to it. Scary! I believe the doctor said it was type A.

I'll just play it by ear and at the first sign of any symptoms, I'll head to my doc.
