We are going to be staying in an off-site house in December with my 84yo grandmother. We have finally talked her into using an ECV. We will be renting a mini-van and I'm wondering if we will have to disassemble the ECV to put it in the van?

Hopefully not. The other option is to just get a wheelchair, but that could get tiring for me to push her around all day.

Technically, the answer is "no" for most minivans. However the specifications sheet for the Ranger "Solo", which is the most common rental, is the weight without batteries is 106 pounds. There are two batteries, each of them, in their case, weighs 24 pounds, so you are looking at 154 pounds total. If you have two very healthy people you could lift it into or out of the back area without disassembly.

However, current specs on the Solo state the heaviest part is 43 pounds. It only takes a minutge or so to disassemble, and about three minutes to reasemble. Please review the "disABILITIES FAQ" for instructions. (I'm 64 with osteoarthritis and do not have any problems with loading or unloading the parts into a car trunk.)

Thanks for the info. There will be a few healthy young adults, so we may be able to lift it. If not, it's good to hear that it's easy to disassemble. I was concerned. Do you suggest renting from Care or Walker? They are both priced the same, and I've heard good things about both.

We have no personal experience (DD has her own manual and power wheelchairs), but from reading all the posts on these boards from people who have rented off-site, you won't go wrong with Care, Walker or Randy's (contact info is in the FAQ thread that Cheshire Figment mentioned).

We use Walker Mobility and are very happy with their service:cheer2: . Disassembling/assembling the EVC is very simple and fast. I'm 5'1" and 110lbs and would take it apart to load it in my SUV, alone, in seconds.
