A very good friend of mine will be going to WDW in November for the first tiem with her BF. She will be going right after Thanksgiving. My question is, she will be using Marriot Timeshare points that her family owns and she was told that she can use the points in a few DVC hotels. My FFIL is a DVC owner and knows everything about this stuff and he told me that yes she can stay there using marriot timeshare , but she will be on a waiting list for the rooms. In other words, she puts her name in for a reservation and they will call her if they have a room for her available... Im just wondering if anyone has any experience with using Marriot Timeshare at Disney resorts. HOw did it work out for you? Did they call you good enough in advance or last minute.? did you get the room you wanted? She will also be booking a seperate ressie at either all star or the Marriot outside Disney jsut in case she doestn get the resort. Any feedback will be appreciated. TIA.

You might try posting this over on the DVC planning board. Hopefully Dean would see it and ask.

You can "trade" your Marriott to a DVC resort. I don't think you can stay at just any open hotel so you will be dealing with OKW, SSR, BCV, BWV and VWL. From what I have read it's NOT easy to get a DVC so my suggestion would be that she be very open. OKW and SSR would probably be easier for example then BCV or VWL!

All exchanges into DVC resorts are handled thru Interval International (II) and not directly thru Marriott. Some of the success with the exchange will depend on the trading power of the points being used, some will depend on the lead time given for the search and some will depend on the dates wanted.

Thanskgiving and early December are very busy times at DVC resorts and there may not be much availability at that time for exchanges. September and January will likely afford better exchange opportunities.

I would certainly initiate the search as soon as possible.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for answering my post.. NOw that you said that september is a slower time for DVC can she book both at the same time and cancel one as soon as she hears about whcih month she gets? I guess the Marriot and DVC service people can answer this question, but just wondering.

Whenever you are searching for an exchange it's always better to provide as many reservation options as possible. If your search is too narrow you may not find anything available. If September would work for you, then put those dates into the search. That time is usually more abundant than the after Thanksgiving period for meeting requests.

Good luck! :)

As long as they don't need a 2 BR, getting DVC in Sept and early Dec is not the difficult through II, there have been a lot of unit online at II for both time periods. You cannot cancel easily and I would recommend against accepting an exchange if they are not pretty sure they will use it. While you technically can cancel, you don't get back what you put in originally.

Marriott really has two issues. One is reward points and the other frank timeshare weeks. Sounds like the two are being confused. I don't think the reward points can be used at DVC or WDW hotels.

Marriott trades with II, and you can ask them to look for A< B<C, and whichever timeshare comes thru first is the one you get. You can refuse A if you really want C, but you may lose your whole vacation that way. Marriott/II charge $39 (I think) for changing/cancelling a reservation. Marriott also has Reward Points, where you can change in your week every other year for two tickets and hotel reservations anywhere in the world. I have never heard of anyone using their Reward Points at Disney, though. And I really doubt that they could get Thanksgiving week at Disney--you can't even get Thanksgiving week in a Marriott, I don't know how they could trade into DVC at that time of year. :confused3

The cancellation fee is for a Marriott week, not an II exchange. You must take what II matches other than you have 24 hours from when it's booked (not when you hear about it) to change your mind. YOu should never list a resort you will not accept. The cancellation penalty is all your exchange fee plus the week that is returned to you is usually significantly less than they one you started with for exchange.

That is a very busy DVC time, so I am going to say your chances of getting a trade into BCV is going to be slim to none, and maybe not into DVC at all. Mariott cannot trade in if there is no availability. Exchanges into DVC would be very difficult at that particular time of year, since it is a VERY popular time with DVC owners.
