Question about DVC Privacy Policy

I am a new member and I just received my first Dues statement and with it I received a copy of the DVC Privacy Policy with an option to opt out of the information sharing. I was just wondering if anyone had a feel for exactly how much information sharing is actually done. Do you find yourself innundated with junk mail and/or phone calls as a result of this (if you can even tell the source of these annoyances). I was also surprised to see that our social security numbers was one of the items listed that they share. I am thinking I should probably opt out of the information sharing. I just wanted to check in to see if anyone could share their experiences with this.

We never get phone calls but get the occasional brochure to sell to a dealer. I never thought those came from a DVC list though- I assumed they got our name and address from public records of our timeshare. We probably will opt out though just because of the SS# issue. (Thanks for pointing that out- I didnt notice that).

We will definitely opt out because of that.

Best wishes -

I have received the occasional phone call from one of the Disney operating companies, like Disney "Parenting" magazine. But I do not know if this was because we are DVC or just general info from resort reservations or AP. ONce in a while we receive mail solicaitations, like the Disney Movie Club. I have never been called or contacted by a reseller or broker.

I opt out of any sharing of my information anywhere. The less places my personal information is stored the lower the chance my identity will be stolen.

I was really confused by the wording of the opt-out option DVC gave us. To opt out you are supposed to check a box that says:

Do not share any information with a nonaffiliated third party other than what is legally allowed.

In my opinion that wording could just send you right back to square one, because legally DVC is allowed to share anything about you they want to share.

To be on the safe side I crossed out "allowed" and substituted "required."
