I have been in touch with Jim McCoy, who had sent us the Dream book. He has been wonderful answering all of my questions, very friendly and knowledgeable about all things DVC!! We decided to buy a resale at BWV. Could Jim still be our guide? What is the role of the DVC-guide? How would we need him in the future? He said he is not the person who makes the trip reservations. Do you have someone specific every time you make a reservation, or a different person every time?

I don't know how re-sales work with regards to the guide, but to make reservations you do that through MS and not your guide. MS is a call center, so you just kind get whoever answers your call.

More than likely he has been assigned as your guide and yes - you will still have him as your guide even if you buy resale. That is how it worked for us. However, the guides are on the sales end and do not have anything to do with your use of your membership. Unless you are interested in adding on you probably won't have a need to contact him.

Once the resale goes through and is completed, should I contact him? Would you recommend this or against this? Will he be mad I went with a resale?

I'm uncertain what the reason would be to contact him? I actually contacted ours b/c we also wanted to do a small add on at AKV. I don't think any of the guides are thrilled when someone buys resale, but would expect that they will remain cordial with the hope of future sales to you.

No need to contact your DVC guide unless you are seeking to make a purchase from him.

Did you contact the car salesman that you didn't buy your last car from? Guides are sales people who want to sell you a membership or more points. He will know that you bought resale as soon as your membership is processed.

Does he have the control to stop the resale through ROFR? Or is that a different department?

No. Lots of us have contacted a guide and then purchased a contract on the resale market instead. As long as your price is high enough to get over the ROFR hurdle, that's all that matters. Your guide is not going to step in and try to interfere with that process.

As others have said, your guide is a salesman. I can't see any reason to contact him after your resale goes through unless you want to add on. He'll be disappointed I'm sure that after spending time with you he didn't get the sale but I'm sure every guide has experienced this situation.

Your Guide isn't mad at you, maybe a little disappointed that he did make this sale. From what I have read, Jim is a great guy, I wouldn't worry. Remember the relationship with your Guide is a business relationship.

Guides don't have anything to do with ROFR.

We got a different guide assigned to us when we closed on our resale than we'd been working with when we were considering a direct purchase.

Unless we are adding on, I've never had a reason to speak to my guide. I said in the other thread I'd never heard from him - not quite true, I stopped by and saw the VAKL models and he made a follow up call to see if we wanted to add on. Seemed like a nice guy, we chatted for a bit about VAKL and SSR.

If I had a significant issue with a stay, I'd worth with the member satisfaction manager - but I'd copy my guide on all correspondence. I've never had an issue worth complaining about.
