If I were to reserve SSR and I wanted a 2 bdr could I be guarenteed a dedicated instead of a lock of?

Yes. 2-bedroom villas are reserved as either a dedicated or a lock-off. You would have a choice based on availability.

Just be sure to ask for a dedicated 2-bedroom when you make your reservation. For SSR, if you are not going during the most sought after few days (like New Year's eve), you can book 3 months (or shorter) before check-in and get a dedicated 2-bedroom with ease.

Most of the time when you book a two bedroom villa, you will get a dedicated if they are available. That leave the lockoffs to be booked as a two bedroom, studio or one bedroom.

Yes, but only up to a point. They actually decide how many of the 2 BR lockoff's they are going to split and how many they are going to leave as 2 BR. Thus it's entirely possible you could call for a reservation and they have a 2 BR lockoff but no availability for a smaller unit or vice versa.

Though I don't disagree, in particular, with the other posters, I will add that there are no guarantees when it comes to securing a dedicated 2BR. Highly likely? Perhaps. Guaranteed? No. ;)

A dedicated 2 bedroom is a booking category for DVC and thus is it guaranteed that you will have it.

If you are talking about an emergency situation happening that will take it out of service, then yes, nothing we book is ever guaranteed.

I think the point that sleepydog25 was making was that it's possible they could change it up on you irregardless of a booked category. Along those lines, we've seen a few posts over the years where a reservation was not honored as booked including no room at the Inn, esp at BCV. They do have this right.

Yup....happened to me. I was traveling with my parents and wanted them to have their own studio so I *specifically* booked a lock-off to guarantee we'd be next to each other (and it was less points). The CM originally booked us in a dedicated until I requested a lock-off. She had to cancel the dedicated reservation and re-book it as a lock-off. When we checked in, we found out that we were assigned a dedicated 2BR. When I told the front desk, I was informed that they did not have a lock-off for us. We had to wait until the next day and we were able to move, but it was a PITA. It didn't help that we were arriving 2 days after Easter. I politely voiced my displeasure and we were compensated with a $200 credit to our room and our points were returned for that one night.

So if I got a 2BR that was deposited into RCI at exactly 11 months (that is the "booking date" in WDWs system even though I didn't pick it up until over a month later) then its most likely a dedicated? I was dealing with a 2yr old with a busted toe while on the phone with MS and didn't bother to ask what it says in their system.

More likely yes but not guaranteed. They will give you what was deposited if it's available and will not change it upon request has been my experience.
