Question about DVC AP renewal

My family, me, dh and two adult kids have AP's. I have the gold and they all have the platinum from the great deal we had on that awhile back. We have a trip for Illuminations after they expire. Our renewal on the Gold is such a great deal, I am thinking of just renewing instead of buying 5 day hoppers (then I have that "well we already have tickets excuse).
Here is my question. I know the rules, and I am NOT looking to get around them. My adult son has moved out since we activated our passes last year. So if I renew them over the phone, to make fastpasses, what happens when we try to activate the renewals? He has bills with our address still and a passport, but his DL has his new address. Would he be able to just pay the difference between our gold renewal price and the regular public platinum renewal price at the window if he wanted to go that route?

If he moved and no longer has a photo ID with your address he's out of luck. You could add him to the deed, for about the same as you would save on the AP.

But would we be out the renewal fee, or could he just pay the difference. That is my question. I want to order the renewal certificates before we get there, so we can book our FP+.

You can renew from the DVC priced AP to the tourist (non-discounted) AP and keep the renewal savings. Not sure if MS can do this, but the Passholder Hotline (407-560-7277) should be able to.
