DW just noticed on the box a bright orange sticker. It has Bold letters that state "Birth certificates without a raised seal are not acceptable". I don't remember seeing that on our last set of docs.
I'm a bit worried now because ours are not raised. They did let us use them last April. Does anyone know if this is something new?

It really isn't new, just being enforced. From previous threads on this topic the raised seal is required and not always immediately apparent. Before you panic try running your finger lightly over the seal and see if there are any ridges. Good Luck!

By "raised seal" they mean a certified copy. I've seen both official stickers from the city or county (with raised lettering) and an embossed seal, like a notary public seal. When we went on 9/5, they stressed it before we got on the DCL bus at the airport and I think they talked about it again on the video they showed on the way to the port. I did notice that they were checking all identification very carefully, even our passports.

If you don't have this there is a site where you can get them. I don't know it. Anyone?
Also my children's birth ceritificates don't have raised seals. They have colored water marks.

I have 37 days. Would that be enough time to get a passport?

You can get a passport in about two weeks, using the expedited service, which costs extra. You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate to apply for that as well. So..... if you have to get new certified copies, it may not be worth the extra money for passports.

I didn't realize until someone posted here that they take your birth certificate when you apply for a passport and mail it back to you with your passport. We were told it could take 6 weeks for us to receive our passports. Although we received them in 3 weeks I would have been concerned if I was cutting it close and I couldn't even use my birth certificate because I had to give it to them for processing.

I e-mailed Donna at DU and this is the response.

Hi Tom,
Donna is on vacation and I am handling things for her.

Not all states have a raised seal, but may have a watermark. As long as it is not a photocopy and is state issued, it should be fine.

If you need anything else, just let me know.

Enjoy the day,
Cathy

Just as long as your birth certificate is issued by the state you are ok.

You cannot take a photo copy of your birth certificate.
