Question about Disneyland ticket bridging?

I didn't see a ticket sticky and a search gave me too many Paris/Asia DL hits. Hope someone might be able to answer this.

I have decided not to renew my WDW AP (not sure if I'm going to take a break from WDW or if I will just cut down my trips).

However I thought about getting a DL AP. I haven't been there since 2017 but I do like DL and would visit there while in CA for other business. However this is a moot point if I would not allow ticket bridging.

My first trip out will probably be in November and I might also be there in March/April and July. I thought about getting just standard visitor tickets (probably 3 days) in Novemeber and then if things pan out the way I think they might, bridging that ticket to an AP.

It looks like with a Flex Pass, two trips with 3 day tickets would even out price wise. I don't mind the restricted/reservation days as they kind of fit my past visits anyway.

Not quite clear on your question, but you can upgrade any ticket to an AP as long as it is done on or before the last day of use of that ticket.

After the last day of use, the ticket no longer has any value to upgrade.

When I’ve bought tickets through last minute travel club they were credited to me at full ticket value, not the discounted price I paid. However, you can’t buy maxpass there. So, if you upgrade to the annual maxpass amount you’ll lose the $30-45 you spent on the first trip if you use maxpass.

Good to know about Max Pass. Even if I had to re-purchase the MaxPass I think it would still even out....but I'll fit that in my calculations. Thanks!

It seems like in most cases, DLR will give you the full gate price of the ticket when upgrading (i.e., "bridging"), but there were some reports of this not always happening. It seems like it depends on who you bought the ticket from and how they bought the tickets from Disney.

I don't use third party as a rule, so most likely I will buy direct from Disney.

If you buy through them the maxpass price should be bridged. Although I’ve seen reports that this doesn’t always happen.

You have to buy the ticket+maxpass option to get the maxpass price bridged. If you buy just the ticket and add maxpass later it will not be bridged. We just did a 5 day ticket+maxpass and bridged it to an annual pass and it was easy. The longest part was waiting in line at the ticket booth to get the actual pass card. Everything else you can do in the app.

I am frustrated with WDW at the moment, but if it works out to hit DLR instead of WDW for a year, I think it'll be a great way to get my Disney fix.

LMT tickets usually receive full value. Other authorized discount vendors don't always receive full value, but are upgradeable. Tickets bought from Disney and from UT with MP prepurchased usually receive credit for MP. Promo tickets and other tickets without monetary value are not upgradeable.

I bought 4 day park hoppers with Max Pass direct from the Disneyland website about a year ago that I am using now. I wanted to add a day to the tickets, but between max pass and ticket price increases, the desk agent at the GCH said my upgrade would be $75 per person. Is that correct?

They said they were giving me the value I paid for tickets, not the current value of the 4 day PH + MP. Should I try in the Park or is that the way it is here in Disneyland? I’ve done the same thing many times in WDW and they’ve given me the value of the ticket today, not what I paid.

Price bridging is one of those hard things to predict at DLR. The short answer is that they don't bridge the price as a rule ("Only the amount paid for the Disneyland Resort ticket may be used toward the upgrade to an Annual Passport at the current price." - while this is from the AP website, it's probably the same for the other ticket upgrades). That being said, I've heard it described that the system will give you the value of the ticket as it is encoded on the barcode. The problem is, you don't know what that price is. At a minimum, you can assume you'll get the amount you spent on the ticket (assuming you bought it from either Disney or a reputable re-seller). Mostly, I think you need to look at the specific re-seller you're interested in going with and see what folks here have reported most recently.

Did you pay $355 for the 4-day PH, plus another $10/day for the MP (so a total of $395)? The current price of a 5-day PH with MP would be $470, so the difference would be $75.

Thanks. I don’t recall what I paid, but I bought in September 2018. From what you’re saying it sounds like they don’t operate like Florida. In Florida, they usually give you the value of the ticket As they sell it that day...so if you paid 90, but it’s sold today for 100, you only have to pay the difference from 100...

I think this is what WDW calls "bridging" and DLR does not do this. DLR upgrades your ticket from whatever price you originally paid (i.e. whatever price is coded in the barcode). So if there have been price increases since you bought the ticket, you will pay that difference. This is why there is so much discussion on this board about certain authorized discount vendors who code their tickets with the full price, but sell the tickets to you at a discount. If you choose to upgrade those tickets, you will be credited the full price and pay less of a difference.
