Question about Disney weddings

I friend of mine called and spoke with a Disney wedding planner today. He told her that one of the minimum requirements for having a wedding there (of 150 people) would be that they would have to book 75 hotel rooms. I told her I thought that was insane, being that 150 people equals just about 75 couples so that would mean that every couple invited to the wedding would have to book a room there. Also, she lives in Orlando and most of the friends and family already live in the area so it would be absolutely impossible to guarantee 75 rooms. Does anyone know if this is true? I find it absolutely unbelievable.

I'll try to explain this.....Disney does have a room night requirement, but not a room requirement. Depending on your guest count you have to guarantee a specific number of room nights, in their case 75. If one family were to book a room for 7 nights, then they would be down to needing 68 room nights to meet their room block. So in theory, 1 family could book one room for 75 nights, and that would meet the room block. The room block is actually pretty easy to meet. However if they have concerns about it because a lot of family is local, they can talk to their SM about it, and they may be able to get the number they have to guarantee lower.

I know i'm from out of town but we had 40 guests and threfore only had to reach a 25 room night total however in total we booked 110 room nights between us - so it can be easy to meet the requirement. I would tell your friend to encourage her guests to come and stay on Disney for a few nights so that they are really feeling the magic associated with the wedding.

If the couple forego their free wedding night room that all Custom Wedding Couples get then their room night minimum may decrease.

hmgolden explained that great!! it sounds crazy, but its really not!! we are having 100 guests, and i was also told i had to block 75 nights. well i got him to change it to 50, and i was able to block 60 (u can block a little more then you guarantee - a percentage). i was very nervous about this b/c you never know how many people are going to stay outside the park, etc..etc..

well, my wedding is not until march 2005. i have 20 nights already taken from my 60, and that doesnt include us, my parents, his parents, grandparents, bridal party, the rest of the guests, etc... (we havent even booked yet). needless to say, i am not worried about it any longer. im most likely going to have to add to my block.

i called to find out who had the rooms figuring it was quite a few families, and to my surprise, it was only 2. my cousin and her husband decided to make a vacation out of it, and they booked 6 nights, and my boss and her kids took 14 nights. they got 2 joining rooms for 7 nights each.

in all reality i was worried over nighting!!

hope this helps!!
