If you stay at one of the resorts, can you go to other resorts and use the pools??

Ryan

Sorry, pool hopping is not allowed.

pool hopping is allowed for sister resorts... IE if staying at All start Music you can use the pool at all star movies or all star sports

And I am not trying to start one, however, my DS is currently a lifeguard at SAB at Y&B and his answer is that any disney resort guest is welcome at any disney resport pool .. Except SAB and AKL. SAB is swamped most days and is only open to guests of Y&B and BCV. ( and tightly monitored as well!) AKL is limited because it is next to the animal savana and they want to keep the noise down.

well sorry but his answer is wrong according to WDW written policy. Most of the resorts have started checking ID's to stop people from pool hopping.

LOL, didn't want to start a fight here people :). I was just wondering b/c a lot of the pools look fantastic and I would love to try a few of them so when I book my next trip I will know which one is the best. If they stop me then I will just tell them that, I guess :)

Hey Ryanrop-

Looks like we'll be there at the same time. We are staying at CBR. If I see a family getting thrown out of the CBR theme pool, I'll know it's you. LOL

Have a great trip!

I haven't been there since 99...but i stayed at the bwv and when we asked they said we could use any pool we wanted, headed over to the y&b and had no problem...I was reading the passporter the other night and it said you can't use stormalong bay, but that vacation club members can use other pools, which may be why they let us pool hop, we were at a the villas a vacation club resort (though we weren't renting points)....this is probably why there is so much confusion. My guess is that if the pool is empty they probably don't care...we were there in Jan, if it's July you'll probably have a different situation.

Officially the word is that you cannot resort hop when it comes to the pools. You are only allowed in the pool at the resort you are staying at.

I know for a fact that they check id at YB/BC pool. They give their guest special wrist bands to wear. I know that AKL also keeps a close eye on their pool.

Unofficially and ofcourse this is not during peak holidays. There are no pool police. You may get asked for id to get a towel, but if you are non chalant or if you visit a resort pool that is not high profile, like POR they are not going to say a thing.

A couple of years ago the pool hopping privledges for DVC members, and those staying at DVC resorts via point renting, were restricted to exclude SAB and AKL pools.

As previously stated, except for the DVC exemption, pool hopping is explicitly against WDW policy. But you may be able to do it (except SAB) with permission from the front desk during slow periods. However, be prepared that you may be told "No".

My understanding is that the "official" written policy prevents pool hopping except those people that are DVC members. That is one of the perks that we get for "investing" in DVC. Now...mind you that SAB is off limits to even us, unless we are staying at BCV, and the AKL pool is off limits to us, unless we are staying there.

I have asked numerous times and the answer has always been no, pool hopping (as it is commonly called) is not permitted.

I would probably too embarrased at the risk of being asked for my room key to try it.

Several on this thread have referred to the "official" and "official written policy"

Can someone refer me to that policy in writing and when it was last updated?

As I said I know I should know better!!!

You'll find the official policy when you check in..it's in the brochure they give you. They tell you that the pool at the resort is for the resort guest only. Each resort is a different resort, with the exception of the sister resorts (All Stars, and the Port Orleans..although with FQ closed it's immaterial). When you go to the pools, they all have signs that say that. Here is a thread that shows the sign (it's hard to see..it says exclusive use of Beach and Yacht club resort guests on this particular sign..the others say the name of their resorts):

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=415302

The signs clearly say, pools are for resort guests only.

That said, you can ask at the different resorts if you can try their pools. Some may say yes, some may say no. Also, i fyou have guests who are not staying, you can ask permission for them to swim. I haven't heard anyone turned down when asking if a guest of theirs can swim.

And technically, DVC renters are NOT supposed to get the DVC privileges according to DVC documentation. But they do most of the time. If you are a guest of the member on their points, you are supposed to get the privileges. If you paid a member to use their points, you are not.

We stayed at the YC in 2001 and I remember someone telling us that although you are not allowed to pool hop, if you are a YC/BC guest will small children you could use the pool at the Boardwalk. It had something to do with the fact that kids couldn't use the slide at SAB with a life jacket on but they could at the Boardwalk. It really didn't matter to us since ds - who was 2 at the time was petrified by the clown slide at the Boardwalk pool!

The last time we were at the Wilderness Lodge, a life guard came around twice during the day and asked for resort ID's.

This wasn't at a busy time of the year, and the pool wasn't very crowded, but they asked.

I saw a couple of folks being asked to leave.

The signs around each pool say it is only open to resort guest :)

If you look around a resrot and find a pool you would like to swim in, this may give you an excuse to come back and stay at that resrot ;)
