Question about Disney Gift Cards

My parents are getting us a Disney gift card for Xmas. What I would like to do is go about our spending as we normally do and by charging everything to our magical bands then at the end of the trip we we go to settle up the bill and review the itemized purchases I could then apply those gift cards to my bill.

Will this work or do I have to use them at the exact time of purchase?

A better choice would be have the gift cards applied to your folio when you check in. Any charges made using the magic bands will be applied against that deposit. If any money is left when you check out it will be refunded to the a gift card. Or if you go over the amount will then be charged against the debit or credit card on file.

I had to check and then re-check the date stamp. I thought, it couldn't be! And I haven't even been on the DIS for very long.

I also paid with gift cards on my last trip. I stopped by the front desk a couple of times and had them applied to my account after I'd charged stuff using the magic bands.

I'd planned on putting them on my account upfront but the CM said I couldn't do that - I found out later that I could've and the CM probably just didn't know how.

Either way works - I kind of liked looking over my account a couple of times to be sure there wasn't anything odd on it when I went to apply my gift cards.

This has happened to me also.
I wish they would say "let me find out if that is possible", instead they just say "no".

In my experience it's about 50/50 whether or not the CMs will do it upfront. You can definitely pay it down as you go though (personally I wouldn't wait until the night before just in case I don't get to it for some reason and my cc gets charged).

Even when I've been told they can't do it upfront, once there is one charge on there, they can add the rest of the cards, it seems.

If for some reason the can't preapply giftcard (I just did it last week at GF) and they charge your credit card, they can refund your cc and apply charges to GC.
