I realize I am showing my ignorance here but what are Disney Dollars? What are they used for and how are they better than cash? Is there anything else about them that I need to know that I am forgetting to ask?

TIA

They are Disney's version of money. They work just like real cash, except can only be used at Disney and Disney stores. They are very cute. I actually got $25.00 last night. They are a good way to save for Disney (because you can't just spend the money elsewhere). The best way to get them is at a Disney store. You can mail order them (not online) and they will be shipped (for I believe $10.00).

They can easily be purchased the Disney Store. They can NOT be traded or cashed back in.

But if you have a $20 Disney dollar and buy a $1.00 toy (like you could find one :rotfl2: ) you will get $19 in cash back.

Hope that helps.

I look at them like a Disney gift certificate. One of my good friends who shares with me my Disney obsession always gets me Disney Dollars for birthday/Christmas gifts because she knows I'll be there eventually and want a new souvenier.

We use them as a savings plan. As a previous poster stated, you can only spend them at Disney. So as soon as I save up a certain amount of money, I run up to the Disney store and purchase my DDollars. If I kept saving the cash instead...there's a chance it would not be there by my trip!

What can you spend them on ...everything at Disney? or jsut soem things?? I want to save too and if I can spend them on ANYTHING there then I will :thumbsup2 ..thanks Linda

Yes, you can spend them for anything in Disney - parks, shops, etc. They are a great way to help kids save their own souvenir money - no temptation to spend them before the trip. I've read ideas to use them as rewards for extra chores, as gift ideas when relatives ask what to buy, etc. (In our house, the Easter Bunny hid them in plastic eggs, somehow knowing DS would be going to WDW the next month!)

Then I am sure the folks at Disney would want to know where you got it, since they don't issue them in $20, just $1, $5, $10 and a special 50th anniversary $50-mickey one. ;) :teeth:

They used to issue them.
I still have one from long ago sitting around here.

I love Disney Dollars!!! :teeth:

I bought 50 single ones and my DD is working around the house to earn them for our vacation in September. I told her that if she earns them all, then I would be happy to get more for her to continue to work for. :thumbsup2

Disney Dollars are the same thing as money , but withy disney charactors on it you can spend it as money only in Disney :cool1: :thumbsup2 :sunny: :bitelip: :p

We're also using Disney Dollars for rewards for DS5 and DS2. We also had put them in the boys' Easter baskets (we were supposed to take our 1st trip to DL at the end of April, but had to postpone at the last minute.)

We do this too with DD8 - she earns dollars for chores, and she can also lose them for not doing things she is supposed to do like making her bed. It's a great incentive for her and she has been a very well behaved little girl!

I really appreciate everyone posting an answer to me, I think I will order some to give to the girls for doing chores and such. That way they will be less tempted to spend it as easily as cash at home and can use it at WDW.
