Question about Disney Dining Plan and CA Grill

My DFi and I are going to Disney World in December and have booked a stay that includes the Regular Disney Dining Plan. We got a reservation for the California Grill (even though we are from California haha) and are wondering how this will work on the Disney Dining Plan (Regular). As each guest only gets one entree, does anyone know whether a sushi roll counts as an entree? For example, if we both ordered different entrees that are not sushi rolls, if we decide to purchase a sushi roll on the side to share- is there a way to allocate our Disney Dining Plan to cover the more expensive entree (non-sushi) and for us to pay for the sushi out of pocket? Please let me know. Also, if our reservation is during the fireworks, are you allowed to leave your table to go to the balcony for viewing or is that rude/ unacceptable?

I don't remember if the sushi counts as an entree, but you can add anything on, including apps, alcohol, etc. Sometimes, the server will ask if you are on DP (and which DP you are on, as DxDP gets apps) when seated, other times not til the end of the meal. When they bring you the check, tell them you are on DP. CG will take 2 TS credits. Then, the server will give you two tickets - one to sign for DP and tip - and another ticket with extra which you can room charge, cash pay, credit card, etc. As for getting up during the fireworks, I think it depends on whether or not you are standing on top of someone else or obstructing the view of others. Also, it depends on your definition of rude. I'm sure we've all seen behaviors that some may consider as rude and others feel free to do it.

Yes, you may go to the balcony in the middle of dinner to view the fireworks. Depending on the timing of the meal, you may want to ask the waiter to hold the next course until after fireworks.

And yes, Sushi *can* count as your entree. But you can also simply let them know that you are on the dining plan, and that you want to order an extra sushi roll out of pocket.

In general, most of the time, signature restaurants are a poor value on the regular dining plan. You end up using about $60 worth of TS credits for about $50-60 worth of food, typically. So if you plan on a couple extra TS restaurants, it is sometimes better to simply pay out of pocket for California Grill, and use your credits elsewhere.

Sushi as an entree is not a good value for the use of two DDP credits...if you're keeping track of the value of what you order, and one of your party only wants the sushi, you may want to pay OOP for your sushi and then save the two DDP credits...you can then add an extra 1 credit restaurant for both of you.

Tell your server before you order which meal will be paid for with DDP and which will be paid with cash/credit card/whatever.

You will even be encouraged to go to the viewing platform to see Wishes.
