After reading all your threads about tax refunds, I finally get to join you! Our accountant e-filed it and has received word that it was "accepted." How long will it be until it shows up in our bank account? Also, does anyone have any idea what I can expect from the state one filed at the same time?

we got our federal refund in about a week and a half. we owed the state, so i don't know how long that would take.

I had my FEDeral deposited within a week of filing, my NYState within 3 weeks..
But Fed messed up and deposited a second return (someone elses) in my account a week later... is that free money from uncle sam?

Our federal showed up in 10 days. Our state showed up in 5 or 6.

Dh and I e-filed our federal taxes and we had the refund in less than 2 weeks. If you just beat the deadline, I'm not sure whether it will affect the 2 week timetable or not. We filed in early March. As for state taxes, i have no idea. Our state has not yet sent us our refund. Lovely state it is:rolleyes: We'll most likely be moving to your state within a year.

Yikes, NandP.....I would call the IRS and ask them what you should do. Despite the fact that you had nothing to do with the error, you WILL be blamed if you do nothing to rectify it....I hope you are joking re: the free money comment! :earseek:

It took just over a week for me to get both my state and federal refunds direct deposited. I filed in early March.

BedKnobbery... My account said to just put the money aside and they will eventually catch up to the mistake and ask for the money back... I might as well "charge them interest" while I hold it in my bank account....

Whew...I was really worried there for a moment, glad you got some advice from your accountant. A co-worker of mine had a similar situation--although she had NO idea she'd been overpaid by the gov't, as she wasn't keeping track--and now, 5 years later, they are demanding repayment with interest. Really a frightening situation.

My wife & I filed in early March, and received our State in a couple of days, and our Federal in less than 2 weeks.

This was our first time e-filing, and we plan on doing it from now on. :)

I think ours took about 7-10 days. The IRS site puts it at "faster than 3-4 weeks". Here's a link with info about refunds.

I think if your electronic return is accepted prior to noon on Thursday, the deposit will be in your account the second Friday morning after, so just over a week. If you miss that weeks deadline, it would still be the second Friday, but could be closer to 2 weeks.

We got our state return into the account on the seond business day after submitting it.

I did my daughter's return on Saturday using Turbo Tax. We did the e-file and her refund from the state was in her checking account yesterday!! Hooray!!

I think we got ours a little over a week after filing. It was probably about 8 or 9 days. The state refund came a day or two earlier.

Thanks everyone. They didn't file it until Friday, so I'm guessing it will be toward the end of the month. I keep getting an error on the IRS site -- I'll try it again later.

Does the IRS send you something saying they've deposited it? This will be fun to watch for.

We filed ours back in Feb. 8 electronically- both federal and NC.

Fed. deposited 2/20, NC was on 2/24. Our H&R guy always says to e-file NC and ask for electronically so we can have it before Christmas

My DH just went online to our bank account info every day to monitor if/when it was deposited. Wasn't long about a week for the fed, and a little longer from the state.

We have e-filed for years, and had refunds electroically deposited for as long as that has been an option.
