DH & I (no kids this trip) are booked at WDW 8/29-9/2 to celebrate my 40th birthday. But, I've been doing some looking, and I am about to change my reservation to the HRH instead (haven't been to Universal in over 7 years).

This is labor day weekend - is it advised that I make dining reservations in advance? At WDW I've always made my dining reservations like 180 days (or whatever it is these days) out...on the nose. Am I too late to get anything good at Universal?

And while I have you, can you make any restaurant recommendations for me? I am truly clueless :confused3

TIA!

if you want to feel safe and get the resturants of your choice, make them the morning you will be at the parks.

for city walk, you can make them at the ressie booth.

there is a pic on one of the threads that metro west posted a week ago.

go to the city walk website and look at the menus of all the places.

for the parks, mythos would be the only one you would want to make a ressie at if they close early that day. (3:00)

the hotels have some very nice on site resturants also.

check some of the past threads for opinions and pictures of the food at the various city walk, hotels, and park resturants.

::yes::

The only two exceptions are either of Emeril's restaurants: Emeril's at Citywalk, and Emeril's Tchoup Chop at the Royal Pacific Resort. Reservations are strongly recommended, at least a month in advance, and can be made at opentable.com or by calling the restaurants.

I took my wife to Tchoup Chop for her 44th birthday this past May. Both restaurants are expensive and have an almost business casual dress code.

For a less expensive alternative, there are other restaurants located at Citywalk and the hotels as Mac pointed out. My favorites are Margaritaville and Hard Rock Cafe. At most of the Citywalk restaurants, you'll usually receive priority seating by showing your HRH room key. As you will be visiting during a busy holiday, you should inquire when checking in at your hotel, if priority seating will still be available at Citywalk.

Have fun and have a Happy Birthday!

Just curious, did you enjoy the dining experiance at Tchop Tchop? My DH & I will be down in a week, definatly eating @ Mythos, and had considered Emeril's in Citywalk OR Tchop Tchop (we're staying @ RPR), but our oldest daughter & son-in-law (both loved Mythos) said Emeril's in City walk "was not worth it"!!! Should we give Tchop Tchop a try???

Yes, Tchoup Chop has become a consistent stop for us on our trips. I believe this was our fifth visit to Tchoup Chop over the past several years. Here are a few pictures inside that I've taken over the past couple of years:

We do like Emeril's at Citywalk also, but as we only eat at one or the other, we've lately been picking Tchoup Chop.

Thanks everyone - I made the hotel reservation switch yesterday! Now I've been printing off menus & showing them to DH. :woohoo:

We wound up doing Emeril's at City Walk instead of Tchoup Chop. We had an excellent dinner!! I mean surprisingly really good.

We also did the Kitchen at HRH (very good) and Bubba Gump's Restaurant (average).

Sorry I can't be more of a help!
