Question about Dining Plan with DVC

Not sure if anyone will know this, but I had a question about the Disney Dining Plan and the DVC. Is it possible to drop the dining plan once it has been added to the reservation? I know you have to add it 48 hours before you arrive, but is there a time limit to cancel if it can even be canceled?

The dining plan is not paid for until check-in. I believe, it can be cancelled up until the day you arrive.

I thought any additions or changes to the dining plan through DVC has to be done 48 hours ahead of time. I don't think you can just drop it when you check in because it is already loaded into your account. If you don't cancel before 48 hours out, you'll be paying for it for the entire stay for all the guests on the reservation.

I've added it the day before we arrived. I was told they would also cancel it the day before. Not that I wouldn't make it a habit. It was just a last minute change of plans for us.

we had a boardwalk view studio this past Feb. for 5 nights with the dining plan added and then we had to change to a standard view studio for the weekend we had the dining plan for that reservation also, we had to check out of the boardwalk view on friday morning and check back in for the standard view for the weekend, we cancelled the dining plan for the weekend when we checked in, so it is possible to cancel when you check in and we rented points from someone for the whole trip, so it can be done yourself without having the person you rented from do it.

You were lucky, that is not policy and many others have not been able to make same day changes. Even more lucky is that a non owner made changes to the reservation. I have been told by Disney that when a Front Desk Cast Member made a change for one of my renters, they broke policy and that a report would be sent to their Manager.

Thank you for the helpful info. I have contacted the DVC owner and she was able to cancel the dining plan for us today (well yesterday now). This is all good to know for the future.

We were booked for ddp for 5 people on our last trip (Nov9-14) and was unsure if everyone could come d/t football playoffs. Well it ended up being three of us. I called ms couple days before and they said to call the day we arrived. I literally called in the magical express line and the other two were cancelled. Nothing like disney service!
