Question about dental glue.

Just my luck. I have a temporary crown on a back molar. The temp crown just came off (the permanent one goes on in a week) Of course this happens at 3:30 on a Friday. I called the dentist and their office is closed until Tuesday. We are going away for a short trip Sunday, Monday, Tues and Wednesday. I don't want to be toothless that long. I left a message on the dentist cell phone, but she has not called me back. For all I know she is in another state right now.

So I called my old dentist office. They can glue it back on. Since they are not longer my dentist it is going to cost around $75 (my insurance won't cover it.) She suggested I get some dental glue from CVS and glue it on myself. I am wondering if anyone else has done this. The crown does fit right back in place. I just knew that when I got the temp something like this would happen. I am notorious for losing temporary caps.

Anyone with other suggestions, or who have done this and how did it work?

I have done this for a crown before. The over the counter glue is very temporary and the crown will be off again soon. My suggestion would be to just leave it off until you get to your regular dentist. I left mine off for over 6 months just because I couldn't get an appointment and they were able to put it back on with no problem.

Plus, if the over the counter glue comes loose you could accidentally swallow the crown, and that would be a pain to replace.

The QUEEN of crowns here.........I would not use any type of glue. I use Fixodent. It works so much better and pops right out, no fighting to get it off with the glue. Just a teeny tiny drop and put crown back on and bite gently till the bite is comfortable. Chnage the goop every day though!! Good luck!!!

That is an idea. I sent DH to the store to get some glue.

Oh, never mind I just called him on his cell, he left the store already.

If it doesn't work I am going for the fixident. Man I feel old!

Don't open the package, go back and get the Fixodent or the like, you'll be happy you did!!! You can eat everyting (except gum and cheewy things!!!) But even my dentist thought it was a fantastic idea. It makes you feel so confident until you can get to the dentist!!!!

So far the dental glue is holding. At 1st I got too much in there, and it didn't go down as far as I would like, so I took most of it out. I must of got some of it in there, because it is still holding. I hadn't really tested it yet.

I did pick up a small tube of Fixodent when I ran to the drug store yesterday, just in case. I will take it and the fix it kit with us on our trip and pray it works.

fixodent is a great idea. just remember to only use a small amount. it is important to keep the crown on. teeth do shift, and any movement of the regular tooth will make the permanent crown harder to seat. you will be fine. sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. sorry your dentist did not get back to you. even if they are out of state, they should have someone else on call.

Those dental repair kits from CVS are amazing! When the whole left side of my tooth fell off, I used the cement to cover it and it lasted up to 2 weeks at a time! You can be sure I took a brand new kit "just in case" to England now that I have a crown. But I think I would lose another filling or break a tooth before that crown pops off. All I know is it hurt like a bugger when it was being placed, so there is not much tooth there. I would definitely cover it ASAP!

I had a HUGE problem with this about a month ago. They didn't fit the crown right and every time I ate (on the other side of my mouth even) the crown rubbed on my other teeth and came off. They suggested fixodent as well, which didn't work for me. Really nothing did until they filed the crown down. But, I guess for the weekend, just go for the fixodent.

I've used both fixodent and the temp glue. The glue works much better imho
With the fixodent I didn't feel safe enough to sleep with the crown in, but the tooth was pretty sensitive without the crown in place. The glue OTOH I've had last for a couple of weeks when a temp crown fell out. I just glued it back in and waiting to go in when the pernament crown was in.

I had to re-glue it just a few min ago. The other stuff lasted a little less then 24 hours. I felt it move at lunch (soup) and then I just reached out and touched it and it came out. This time I think I got enough glue and got it in good and tight.

I am getting better at the whole thing. I was joking about becoming my own dentist. Too bad I hate dentists (no offence to any out there, I actually like my current one a lot.)
