1. We both love trivia. If afternoon trivia is taking place in a pub, will they deny her entry? (hasn't been an issue on other cruise lines, but thought Disney might be stricter)

2. Are the odds good that she can register for both Edge (11-14) and Vibe (14-17)? I read that sometimes they'll admit kids a year younger than the cutoff.

If the trivia is taking place in the pub, and it's before 9pm, she should be able to participate. The clubs are closed to underage at 9.

I can't help you with the second one, have never cruised Disney with kids that age.

Vibe is very strict about their age limit. We spent one cruise watching an almost 14 year old try her key card in the elevator every day until her birthday. She had hoped since her birthday was during the cruise she could access Vibe all cruie but, she had to wait until she actually turned 14.

This was not our experience, but you are right, just the card alone won't get a 13 YO into Vibe. There is a form you fill out, and with the parents permission, they will take 13 YOs provided their aren't already too many 14-17 YOs on the ship (which is rare). Our 13 YO niece wanted to be with my sons and her sister (who were 14-16 at the time) and she was able to, no problem.

She'll be allowed into the pubs if the trivia is during the day.

While she may be allowed into Vibe, just remember that she is a 13 year old girl that will be hanging out in a group with potentially almost 18 year old boys (and girls). This might be totally fine with you, but it's something that people seem to forget sometimes. 17 year olds could be going off to college. 13 year olds are still in middle school. 17 year olds are basically adults. 13 year olds are definitely not.

As long as the event isn't listed as "18+", it shouldn't be an issue. It did seem like the trivia that would attract just adults was usually in the pub (like 80s TV show theme music) whereas the stuff that would attract a wider range of ages (like Disney trivia) was held in the Promenade lounge on the Wonder - which is always open to all ages.

Will she be in high school (or summer before) when you cruise? Or will you be sailing with friends or family who have kids in the Vibe? If not she may be better off with kids in her age group. The older kids may not be real friendly to a younger kid invading their space.

On my recent Magic cruise, the cruise staffer hosting trivia in O'Gill's Pub (Tisa -- not sure of spelling) told me that for 18+ trivia games in the lounges during the day, children may attend but they may not participate on a team. That said, I went to 3 games in the pub and didn't see any children.

As cmph pointed out above, the trivia games most likely to appeal to kids are in other areas, such as the Promenade lounge and D Lounge. If your daughter likes trivia, though, and wants to quietly watch you play in the pub, she could give it a try. The worst case scenario is she would be asked to leave if the rules are different for different ships (or different cast members).

We were surprised at how difficult the trivia questions were. DH and I have been "ringers" at a local game (we were brought in to make the adults look good against the teens who planned the game.) We held our own against the teens, while the other adults didn't even try. On the ship we really struggled while other passengers came up with the right answers.

We sailed the Wonder in July with extended family. The older cousins were 11, 12, 13 and 14. We spent quite a bit of time in the pub during the day playing board games. At one point they did Movie Music Trivia, which was 18+. The CM said we were welcome to stay, but the kids couldn't be on a team. (We just stayed and kept playing our card game.)

Because one of the goals of the cruise was for the cousins to spend time together, we insisted they all go to Edge together. The oldest two were a little sulky about this. My son flat out told me he had his "skepticals" on, LOL! And ... the loved it! Went every night, and sometimes popped in for an hour during the day. I would encourage your 13-year-old to check out the Edge before trying to sign her up for the Vibe. The kids all loved the CMs in there. Have fun!

As others have said, during daytime hours the pub area is generally all-ages.

HOWEVER...

I have known them to do adult-only activities even during the day. If something is listed as adult-only, please abide by that regardless of what time it is. I went once to an adult-only craft thing that someone insisted her "mature" child be allowed to attend - the CM sort of left it to the rest of us and no one wanted to be "that person" because the mother was loud and already got attitude. But most of us left partway into it - and I decided no more of those activities for me.

I think the proper response to that would be, "Ok, if we are going by maturity level then your kid can stay but you have to leave."
