We are planning to stop somewhere north of Atlanta on our way to Disney next month, and last year had a good experienced with a recently refurbished Days Inn in another town. Does anyone know about the Kennesaw Days Inn?(if it is run down or a decent place to stay) Maybe someone who has been through there recently or someone who lives in the area.

I guess I could just call them and find out when their last refurb was, but it's more fun to ask my fellow DIS'ers!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks!! :goodvibes

What exit is it off of? There are a couple of newer Hiltons off of exit 269 (Barrett Parkway) that are nice looking (built within the last 1-2 years).

I don't really know about any of the hotels in Kennesaw but if you want to try an interesting, although greasy, place to eat may I suggest The Varsity by the mall. Its a bit of a Georgia tradition serving burgers and hotdogs and they have a wonderful drink called a frosted orange. Its a frozen orange drink sooooo good!

Have a great vacation:goodvibes

Varsity or the BIG CHICKEN.

We lived off Powder Springs Road in Marietta. DH was a Cobb Co. police officer, b4 kids and move back to NJ.

I don't know about the Days Inn specifically, but that area is a safe place to stop. It's right near a large shopping mall and tons of other stores like Target, etc.

That will be great, as we will have a few extra hours in the area. :thumbsup2

If you have a few hours in the area, you might want to see Kennesaw Mountain Park. Or check out the Marietta Square. The Barrett Parkway area has all the shopping you could imagine, but it's rather generic!

I won't diss the Varsity, as it is inexplictablely popular, but the Big Chicken? Drive by and take a photo, but it's just a KFC on the inside. :)

That's above the Costco there (it's on the hill like Costco is). You have a ton of choices for food, there's a US Play next to the Costco, Borders, Target is just across the street (not a SuperCenter though). Major mall not even a mile away to the east. Only drawback is that it's a busy road around the rush hours and the weekends.

When were you in Marietta? (I grew up right by Kennesaw Moutain. Live in Buckhead now.) My dad was involved with the police force.

as days inn is a days inn. it is a nice place, and a place to sleep for a night. it is not going to make or break your trip. book it and be ok with it.

96-99.

We were closer to Publix (off Pwd Spg Rd) than town ctr. I worked at Sport's Auth. in Kennesaw (near Barrett and is it 42?).

Big Chicken was a joke....it's the reference point when giving directions. There was (is?) a farmer's market near the big chicken that was fabulous.

My daughter (will be 11 in Oct.) was born at Kennestone Hospital.

How funny. Kennestone is where I work now.

Farmer's Market has been bought by Whole Foods, so is still good but also generic. Any visitors should check out the Big Chicken, I agree. Note the moving beak, installed as a pigeon scaring device after the ice storm of ?86 revealed massive poop corrosion on the inner works.

It's Highway 41 btw, as in the Rambling Man song
