Question about DAS

So I go to Disney regularly and it's never even occurred to me to ask about this but I'll be going by myself with my daughter this time.

I have orthostatic syncope, simply put I pass out when I get to hot and don't have much warning. It honestly doesn't happen that often but I am concerned about it happening while I'm alone with my daughter.

Is the DAS something that could help me in this situation? Like with the non air conditioned queues? That seems to be the only place I have issue. I've passed out once in the BTM que and once in the jungle cruise que.

Will this even be a thing they could accommodate, should I even pursue it?

no one here can say if you will or will not get a DAS card for this.

I would go to GR and explain your need as it is waiting in line. they do not need DR note ( they should not even look at one) and really do not need to know what the DX is just think of what you need while waiting in line.

2 things will happen they will give you a DAS card or not.

if they do give you a DAS card then you will have to be aware that you will still be in the heat so you will need to take precaution The DAS willed you wait some where beside the line, and return to the FP line when you time is up. BTMRR ( if you are taking about disney world) is pretty fair from any think that is indoor, and walking back a forth might make you even more over heated then just waiting in line and having things with you to help keep you cool. speaking of keeping your self cool a few thing you can do ( and you probable know this.

wear light /cooling clothing ( I line omni freeze )

fain with spritzer will help

hat or small umbrella to have shade. ( and only use the umbrella when there are not a lot of people around

also set up you r FP for rides that have out door lines for the heat of the day use RD for out door lines before it get hot have your FP starting at 10:30/1100 and then do some indoor rides. If the park is open late take a break at your resort then go back to the parks latter in the day the it is cooler.

I am sure I can think of others but this is all right now

if they do not and they suggest something else try what they suggest , of you find it is not working for you then go back to GR and say I have tried what ever they suggested and it is not working because and then go from there.

I know 3 people that have problems with bing in the sun ( 2 have no pigment ( SP) and 1 will pass out if they get over heated not sure of the DX) but I do know all 3 have asked for the DAS and have been told no. Now in no way am I saying you will not just that my friend have been told no and the first time I asked for a DAS I told then CM that I had problem with het and passing out ( I have passed out a number of time at Disney and at lest there is always some one nearby and Alpha ( Disney road for paramedics ) will come out for free to check you out.

one last thing make sure you have a medical ID if you do not already.

and have a great trip

The DAS could be granted in this instance, but no one knows for sure, until you get to Guest Services. You won't need a Doctor's note, and Disney doesn't want to know your diagnosis, just your needs (air conditioning). Be aware that the DAS is rarely available for shows, restaurants, parades. How are you planning to combat the heat when not in a queue? Walking, waiting for a parade, etc?

If your daughter is very young and you are going by yourselves, consider writing an emergency phone number on a card (some parents write it on a arm or leg, so it will not be lost). If you child is older, then make sure she knows what might happen and how to ask for help.

The thing with a heat based condition is for the rides it would affect (at MK I'm thing Peter, Pan, IASW, BTMRR, JC) you will be outside for up to 30 minutes with the DAS anyways. Plus they can't guarantee that you will have somewhere in the A/C to wait out the DAS.

Of course you can always go to GR and ask and they may give you a DAS but if it is only a few rides and based on heat then I would think of ways to minimize that.

This thread has more information about DAS. The first post is up to date, but the rest is from before and just after DAS came into use, so don't bother reading them.

When you request DAS, you will need to explain what needs you have that make waiting in the regular line an issue.
Even if you do have DAS, as was mentioned, it is not going to completely eliminate exposure to heat.
It's also important to consider what would happen to your daughter if you do pass out?
How old is she? Is she likely to panic? Will she stay with you even if EMS has to take you for treatment?
It might make more sense since you are alone with her to just avoid attractions you think might possibly be an issue.

I'm trying to plan the best I can, I got Crystal Palace reservations for 2 so I'm hoping we can just sit in there and eat and walk out and see what we can of the parade when it starts. I figure we'all try t see the last friendship faire show so it'll be later in the day and maybe not as hot. Maybe just ride jungle cruise at night.

We normally go in February or October but we're doing a cruise this time and will be there first week in May. I normally do ok with fans and frog togs but I'm just having anxiety about it his time because it'll just be me and her. She's 8 so not super young but I'm just used to having someone I car turn too and say I'm not feeling well and leave the line quickly without having to worry about her. KWIM?

Peter Pan - the queue is pretty much inside now, isn't it? I've found BTMRR to be the hottest queue, so I'd just get a FP+ for it anyways, along with the Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise.

I can't remember if DAS/FP is but since the line can still be outside for upwards of 30 minutes during the day I figured it could be an issue. It does go inside though.

there is a part of the line that gose inside for PP for sure, This is where all the interactive things are. Some of then are very cool. I went in line early enough in the day to do this and had a great time. the part of this line is under cover so you will have this to help maybe.

BTMRR is out side, but undercover fro most of it Both FP and stand by go the same way but FP dose not go back a forth as much and is shorter.

There is a wheel chair lime for BTMRR but you some times have to wait for the CM in the direct sun for up to 10-15 minutes.

Yes.
When they renovated the Peter Pan queue and added interactive features, it became mostly inside. Only the last few minutes are outside.
I would agree that BTMRR probably feels the hottest, along with Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise.
