What, if anything, are you supposed to do when the crockpot lit starts shaking and steam is "bursting" out from it? Does that mean it's too hot? Should I turn it down? Is this normal?

I have to tell you that I cook in the crockpot a lot and I have never had anything like this happen. Typically when I am cooking something I will do the first 2 hours on high and then cut it back to low. I would try that and if it continues to happen, I would sorry that it may have some kind of short.

My crockpot doesn't have steam coming out the lid. :confused3 I would think its too hot...turn it down.

It seems my newer crockpot cooks at higher temps than any older crockpot I've had...but still, its never done that. I've learned to adjust to short times or lower temps when using a newer crockpot on an older recipe.

However, I do have a Nesco roaster oven / slow cooker that will do that...because well, it just can reach higher temps than a true crock pot.

personally I would turn it down if it is boiling like that :)

You must have a Rival Crock Pot!

I think on the newer ones, they've increased the temps or something. I bought a new one last year, and it always cooked WAY too hot! I hated it.

I finally trashed it & bought an All Clad one at Williams Sonoma. It works great! :thumbsup2
