We have pretty much decided to tent camp in January of 2002. I have a concern about some unwelcome guests at the campsite, namely rats. We saw one while staying at the All Stars this past December and I haven't really thought about them being at the campground. So someone please tell me that they have been camping there 20 thousand times and have never seen a rat.;)

I don't care about possums or raccoons or any other critters, but the rats will do me in. :D

I was there during Spring Break in a dome tent and never saw any rats. We were all excited to see other forms of wild life especially the armadillos! You will have a blast! Although next year we will be staying in the Poly, we plan on dome tenting again during Spring Break 2003. Since my ex and I alternate every other Spring Break that is the best I can do because I do not want to be there in a tent during the hot summer months (and rain)!

TC

Never seen a rat at Disney, the mouse pretty much rules the world;) ;) ;) , never seen one at Fort Wilderness, there are a lot of other critters, namely those pesky armadillos, and raccoons to name just a few,

AUGGGGH !

I can say I have never seen a rat and I go camping at Fort Wilderness 5 to 6 times a year.

Thanks everyone, that makes me feel much better. People cannot believe that we saw one at the All-Stars, but we have it on videotape!! I'm sure it was an isolated incident.

We've stayed at FW 5 different times over a period of 16 years...we've stayed in 5 different loops for as long as 10 days in a stretch. We've spent countless hours exploring the campground at all hours of the day and night and have seen many, many forms of wildlife big and small...but we have never seen any sign of a rat!

Have a great time!!

I've never seen a rat at FW either, but that only makes sense to me. I've never seen a rat at any campground or state park or hiking trail or green space. But I've seen quite a few over the years near restaurant and hotel dumpsters, in cities and along polluted streambeds. They are scavengers that thrive in heavily populated areas more than in green spaces.

The pesky critters at FW were the mosquitoes (and not so bad, really!) and early morning whippoorwill wake-up calls we occasionally heard. Thoough they can be part of the ambiance too. ;) The rest of the critters were pretty enjoyable! :)
