I know a while back Wal Mart was having some problems about accepting credit cards. If I remember right, they stopped accepting them if you had to sign for your purchase, are they still doing this or did they ever stop taking them?

All I have been using at Wal Mart is checks in fear if I try to use my credit card it will be denied.

Thanks!!!

At least they accept checks at your WalMart! The one closest to me will run a check through the scanner once. If it doesn't accept it, they won't enter it manually or request approval from the business office. Tough luck.

I've minimized my shopping at WalMart because of that. I won't use a credit card or debit card, so that leaves cash. I make sure I have sufficient cash to cover the household supplies I buy there each month and that's it. They lost a fair amount of business from me with that policy. I do save enough on the household supplies to make the inconvenience worthwhile, but I don't buy anything else.

I wish there was other places to shop where I live, but there's not. :guilty:

If I want to shop somewhere else I have to drive 30 miles to the next town. And the way gas prices are, it's just not worth it.

I just haven't noticed on the doors when you walk in if there are credit card signs or not. Just want to get in and get out. :) During the day our Wal Mart is very bad at only having 3 to 4 check out lines open.
It is so bad that I have gotten to the point where I now make out a list for DH so he can go when he gets off work at 7 am. Since that is the time they open and it's so early he says he basically has the store to himself except for a couple of other people that work at the same place as him.

This is is the first I've heard of no cc at Walmart.

I have always used a cc there.

herc.

They quit doing that since so many people complained. What is was is for Debit cards (the ones with the CC logo on it, but you can also use it with a pin) -- you had to use it as a debit card, with your pin. They would not accept it as a credit card (without a pin). If you had a regular credit card, you could use it as such, but if it was a debit card you had to use the pin.

I left a whole buggy of stuff in the checkout lane once. I didn't know my pin (have never needed it) and didn't have my purse with me, so I had NO WAY of paying for my stuff. My kids were crying because they couldn't get what they'd picked out.

I only shop at WM when I have no other alternative!

"Debit or credit?, Paper or plastic?"

Using the PIN procedure (say "debit") with a debit card saves the merchant some of the transaction fees but usually reduces the benefits such as airline miles that some cardholders get. Check your card's rules to see what differences the PIN procedure has versus the non-PIN procedure (say "credit" even with a debit card). The differences vary from one bank to another.

The money comes out of your checking account just as fast either way.

>>> They quit doing that (requiring that debit cards be processed using their PINs) since so many people complained.

And so many buggies of stuff including frozen food were (had to be) abandoned at the checkout to have to be restocked by clerks.

My checking account debit card has the Mastercard logo on it. I can run it w/ a pin (and no signature) or run it as a credit card. Either way the money comes from my checking. The difference is-- if I run it as a debit and not a credit--- I get charged a $2.50 fee from my bank for not using an affiliated ATM.

Back to the original question--- I still every now and then will have issues w/ my paypal card. Which is the Mastercard debit card to my paypal account. I can have plenty of money above and beyond my purchases and 4 out of 10 times it will deny. No rhyme or reason-- and it only happens at Walmart (just happened right before Mother's Day). However, my regular checking has the mastercard logo on it too-- and I've never had a problem.
