Question about Costco tickets to Magic Key

Just anecdotal, but I saw a post last week that someone upgraded their Costco ticket and they were credited $420 (dining value was deducted).

I upgraded a regular 70th ticket (purchased direct thru Disney) including LL to a Believe key on Sunday, and was credited the ticket value + LL value that I paid ($623 for a 4-day Anniversary ticket with LL). But as I suspected, the LLs disappear once you upgrade. So definitely wait until the last day when you are leaving to upgrade, I was able to upgrade in the app but not sure about the Costco tickets. (Obviously my park reservation disappeared as well, which didn't matter since I was leaving.)

When you say the value do you mean the price you paid or the non-discounted price of the same ticket?

I bought direct so I paid $623 to Disney, so $623 went towards my ticket. I know a lot of the 3rd party websites buy the tickets at a discounted rate, so sometimes Disney will only credit the same ticket (worth $623) a lesser amount when upgrading, which catches some people by surprise because they think the value should be $623. Hope that makes sense!

I was just curious if the $623 was the full value ticket or the discounted 70th price, since you did buy the discounted 70th ticket. Disney has generally only ever applied what you paid for the ticket to the cost of a new ticket. So upgrading you "lose" the discount that you paid. I agree this confuses a lot of people. They will buy say the Costco ticket and expect to get the full (non-discounted) price applied to their ticket upgrade/MK. I am actually surprised that they applied the cost of LLMP to the MK.

$623 was the price when buying the ticket from the Disney website with LLMP included ($495 for 4 day park hopper 70th ticket and $128 for 4 days of LL). So I spent $623 and Disney credited that amount towards my upgrade. I am happy they applied the LLMP cost as that definitely "saved" me a slight amount, I was pretty sure they would based on reports I've seen floating around, but it definitely was not clear based on the website wording. As soon as I entered the park on my ticket, I was able to see in the app that the full value of the ticket would be applied, so that was nice to know right away.

Seems like the Costco ticket is getting the full credit (minus the dining credit which is fair) despite being a "discounted" ticket, so that seems quite generous.

Overall I will get very close to breaking even on the key vs a 4-day 70th and a 5-day regular ticket that I already planned to buy (with park hoppers and lightning lanes), so the Mouse won in the end and I will have to plan a 3rd trip to come out "ahead" :rotfl2:

Back when I had an AP that exact thing happened. I snuck in an extra trip because well we had an AP so it just made sense to get full use out of it. Back then a deluxe AP cost less than two 3 day park hoppers (all multi day tickets were hoppers back then). But I also could take the 3 of us for what it now costs just for myself. Ahhh the good ole days. lol.
