Question about Construction?

I read on one of these sites that Disneyland and Disney Cal Advent are getting makeovers and new things are being added. Does anyone know exactly what is being done? When is going to start? When will it be finished? How much will it affect the guests who are visiting during the work? DD and I are planning a trip to So. Cal. the first two weeks of June and are planning to spend 3 or 4 days at DL. Considering the fact that we are going to be traveling so far, that this is our first trip, and that we will not get to do another trip to So. Cal. for many years, if at all, we really don't want to plan it during the middle of a major construction project. I am trying to determine if we should change our travel dates. Our dates are sort of flexible. Work schedule is not an issue for me. School schedule is an issue though. I will let her miss some school, but not two weeks. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was talking to a CM and she mentioned that the first offical day of construction is set in Jan. 2008. I have to say that if you're planning on a June trip, nothing will likely be finished by then... Some of the plans are not stated to be completed for years actually...

From what I heard the main focus will be DCA, but IASW sounds like it will be down for a major refurb. and may not be back up until the 2008 holiday. I think the main plan though at DCA is to try and focus on changing things up while effecting the park as little as possible. I see them getting some stuff done very soon in the back Midway area as Toy Story Mania should be opening around the time you arrive, but I have also heard the front is getting work done as well. The nice thing is some of the work will be hidden like switching the Muppets 3-D out, and doing what ever they will be doing to the Who wants to be a Miillionare building (man I miss that show :sad2: ) But it is hard to say what is going to happen until we see work starting up.

Thanks guys! Maybe it will make sense to put the So. Cal. trip off until 2009. Surely, most of the work will be done by then. Besides, I'd like to see the improvements and all the new attractions that they are going to add. If they are making major changes, I'd imagine that those of you who live close and visit often have mixed feelings. Improving is great, but it seems sad to me to change things that have always been and have become apart of the tradition of Disney.

No, the work will not be done until 2011 or 2012.

We asked about it when we were there and they said they are looking at around 2011 right now.

Actually June 2008 would be a good time to go. At DCA The new midway mania ride and the redo of that section should be complete by then. The Sunwheel may be down and not complete. And the other major projects should not quite be underway by then.

Over at Disneyland Small World will be down. They are making the trough deeper and the boats more buoyant to prevent bottoming out from today's heavier guests.

I don't go all the time and don't live close. But some of the changes I like and some I don't.

The addition of Midway Mania.... I like.
The addition of the Lil Mermaid ride... I really like.
The addition of Carsland.... WOOOHOOO!!!!
The Changeover of the not well themed at all Muholland Madness to Goofy's flight school is nice. Curious as to why it isn't being moved to Condor Flats. But sounds good. I like the ride itself. Good one for the little kiddos that aren't quite ready for the biggies, but for whom Gadget's isn't so nifty any more.
World of Color Lagoon show... Nice
Block Party Bash going bye bye... WOOOHOOO!!! Hope the new parade is better.
The makeover of the plaza... Well that area's pretty much kind of dull and such right now so yeah.
That the train and the Golden gate bridge have to go to make it work.... Well sad to see those go
I'd rather they not make it a clone of MGM though. Hopefully it will be different.
As for the removal of Pizza oom Mow Mow, Mickey D's and the Orange Stinger to be replaced by a Beer Garden.... Well don't we have enough watering holes? And I know the Orange Stinger is just a swing ride, but I'd rather have it there than a beer garden. And it appears the Maliboomer is being taken out to be replaced by nothing.... Not all that much in favor of that.

Here is a great thread on another disney board that has a project tracker. It sets out from the information given out so far what projects will be started and completed by what date.

We too are going next summer (August) for our 1st and possibly only trip to DL (although once it is all completed I might think of an excuse to go back!) From what I can gather it will be quite a good time to go. Midway Mania will have opened, they will be doing the work on the temporary enterance in the Millionaire building so the existing enterance will still be in use. Plus other big projects won't have started then. So the only things that will be down will be Muppets as they are changing it to Mickeys Philarmagic, the Sunwheel as it gets it's Mickey face work done to it and IASW over in DL.
So I would say go next summer, then plan to go again after 2012 when it will all be completed.

You guys have convinced me. I definitely do not want to wait to 2011 to go. I guess my June 2008 So. Cal. trip is back on again. This actually works out good. I told DD last night that we were going to move it to 2009 because of the construction. She was disappointed, but agreed. Now that it's back on, I think I find a way to surprise your for Christmas.
