My DS15 was online today "putting together" his class ring. He says "Hey mom, I got my ring figured out. Wanna see it?" I say "How much is it?" He says "Ummm...... ........ ........ $952".I got up and walked out of the house. I have no idea what it looked like, came with, nothing. I think he fell off his rocker if he thinks that ring is even a slight possibility. The subject hasn't come up again.

We've had 2 teenagers go through this... and survived- both got their class rings through the school (Herff-Jones).
It is understandable for kids to want a remembrance of their HS years, but at what price? I lost my class ring in less than a year (literally lost it in a field- it slipped off my finger)- it was 10k gold and a real loss.
Both our kids got the Ultrium rings. DD no longer wears hers as she is in college...
DS wears his constantly. We paid the $50 deposit- they paid the rest.
AT DS's Ring Ceremony everyone was comparing rings.
friends asked him about his ring because they liked it so much - which ring was is, which metal.
Ultrium class ring, $96.00- the least expensive ring he could possibly get, with his choice of 'sides'.
Theirs, platinum, big bucks(over $500!), and they liked his better, thought it looked nicer...
Life Lesson in economics and personal finances- priceless!!!!
