Question about checking-in before the promotional date

I received a PIN in the mail for a room discount. Anyone know if I can check-in prior to the promotional date? I would pay the rack rate for those days and then get the discount starting on the promotional date?
Or, does check-in HAVE to be during the promotional perion?
Thank you!

I believe only if you had two reservations. One pre-discount and one after. Definitely true for a free dining type PIN. Not 100% sure on a room only.

You'd need to have 2 reservations so that you'd be checking in on the day the promotion starts. If you book both as the same room type you most likely wouldn't have to change rooms, but you will need 2 different deposits.

Everything goes by check in date.

Thanks for your replies!
If I have 2 reservations, how does that affect my ticket cost? I planned to buy tickets separately from my room. Will I have to purchase 2 sets of tickets -- that would be more expensive.

If you're buying tickets separately--not part of a package--then you can just get one ticket of the appropriate length for your entire stay. (Don't forget to check out the approved discount ticket sellers-e.g., check All Ears or Mousesavers)

I don't have any clue how things work if you buy through Disney as part of a package.

Thank you!
I do plan on buying my tickets from an approved ticket seller.
Thanks again!

You may want to read the fine print even with some pin offers you also have to purchase the tickets thru disney. Got one in the mail yesterday but unfortunately not for the time frame of our next trip.

Pin offers that offer a room-only discount do not require tickets.

Pin offers that do offer the package require you purchase tickets through Disney to make it a package.

You can mix and match.

The last three years, the free dining has been blacked out on my first day; but I have been able to get a room discount for the first day, then free dining for the remainder of the week.

You can pick up your tickets up to three days early at guest relations, so I do the room only discount, then the free dining with tickets for the entire week's stay. It doesn't matter on the package how many days of tickets you purchase, just as long as you get the minimum requirement.
