Question about charging priviledges at resorts

Hi

I was wondering, last year when we went to Disney world and stayed at the Poly concierge, they placed a $1000 charge from our credit card to our room card key for charging priviledges. My question is this, is it possible to place cash on the room key cards versus credit card $. I would much rather be paying cash then using the credit card. Any information would be apprecaiated

Yes you can put cash on the account and limit the charging privledges just to that, just let them know at check in that that is what you want to do .

Just FYI: With the credit card you are just opening they account. The $1000 is not actually being taken on your credit card (unless you reach that limit at which time they should inform you before taking a payment). The $1000 is just a limit set in the hotel computer to allow you to charge to the room account, basically once your room account reaches $1000 your room card will not work until a payment is made. If you do not have express check out set up (which authorizes the charging of your card at anytime) they should call you before taking the payment. Basically when they swipe your card it takes an approval for $1.00 just to make sure that the card is not stolen, lost, etc. The actual $1000 that they tell you about is the safety in the WDW system so that people don't go out and buy millions of dollars worth of items that they can't pay for so it allows you to charge back to your room, when your charges reach the max then they would notify you to come and make a payment, be it on the credit card or in cash it's up to you... they don't actually pre-charge your card the amount... (I worked front desk at the Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge...this was always a question asked )

We were ar POFQ last week and we placed cash on our room card. It worked wonderfully. Not all of the front desk CMs know how to do it so they may seem a little confused at first but it is possible.

I asked for a print-out of our bill every other day or so just to make sure I was staying within budget and to ensure that no-one had charged me twice for the same thing. I also kept all receipts for the same reason. It worked very smoothly. Just a warning though, when you do this it shows up as a credit on your account and looks like a negative (ex. -$450.) Don't let that freak you out. It did me at first.
