Question About Changing Resort Reservation

I've had an onsite room only resort reservation for many months now and booked all our FP's at 60 days. My dilemma is that I'm seriously considering changing resorts. The Disney online reservation system being what it is, I can't find the resort I want for the exact dates of our trip. It does show availability if I extend the check-out date by two days. The arrival date would remain the same. I usually don't play with the system, but in this instance I'm seriously considering going with the extended check-out date to book and then dropping those last two days off later.

My question is two-fold: 1) Do I risk losing my booked FP's by changing resorts? 2) Is there any risk involved in losing my reservation entirely by using the above strategy of extending check-out by two days and then dropping those 2 days later?

EDITED TO ADD: Also, thought of third question. Will my original deposit amount be applied to the new resort?

1. Nothing should happen to your FPs by changing resorts.

2. If the shorter stay isn't available and you book the longer stay, there's no guarantee you can drop nights. In the past, it was easy to book a longer stay and then modify, but Disney changed that a year or two ago. The shorter stay must now be available as a new reservation in order to drop nights. With that said, you are taking a chance booking 2 extra nights as you might not be able to shorten it later on.

3. If you only change resorts without changing the reservation type (RO to package and vice versa), your deposit will carry over to the modified reservation. Depending on the resort you change to, there could be an additional deposit needed.

Thank you so much for the reply! We've been to WDW many times and always stay onsite but I've never tried to change resorts after initial booking. With all my FP's lined up perfectly, I had some serious paranoia about changing anything.

You're welcome! :)
