Question about changing an existing car rental reservation

Probably a dumb question, but here goes:

I have a reservation with Budget for our upcoming trip, and the rate is excellent. Up till now, if the cost has gone down I've just made a whole new ressie and then cancelled the old one.

Now because of a changed flight itinerary, we will need the car a couple hours earlier. If I go online to change the times only, do I run any risk of losing the excellent rate and having it switch to the current rate?

I decided I'd rather ask a dumb question than not ask it and then regret it later. Thanks in advance!

Some rental web sites will change the rate to the current rate when you try to modifiy a ressie, even for a minor time change.

Try it and see, cancel the changes if you don't like the new rate.

You can also take the chance the rental company will let you pick up the car early*

*I have had (the same) rental company on different occasions let me pick up a car early with no charge, and offer to let me pick up a car early with an extra charge.

Thanks, seashoreCM! I appreciate the info. I'll have to be careful when making my changes and watch to see if the rate changes. Or maybe I'll just risk it and see if Budget will have a car for us a couple hours early since it is not a peak time. Not sure which I'll do...
