Question about Cat T cabins on Magic

Hello,

Do you have a favorite Cat T cabin on the Magic(or Wonder) and why?
I'm planning on taking a Med cruise this summer on the Magic and trying to figure out which cabin to pick.
For example close to the concierge lounge or the buffet.
This will be my first cruise on a classic ship

8532 is our absolute favorite - but there are four "sideways" cabins that have the special layout. We enjoy having the kids beds in the huge open living room (a pull down murphy twin bed and the sofa bed - which my son found ultimately more comfortable). Between the large living room and the triple-wide verandah, it seems like a real home with lots of room to spread out. You can request loungers that will lay all the way flat for these longer verandahs. 3 separate sliding doors out to the verandah. If you look at my Wonder trip report signature for the back to back California Coast cruise, you can see some good pics of the room. We have stayed in this room every cruise on the classic ships. Absolutely love it.

Did you notice any issue with noise being so close to the main elevator bank and stairs?

None at all. We were concerned as well, but the elevators are very quiet, and not too many people were wandering around on our deck that I noticed. We hardly ever saw anyone in the hallways even. In rough seas, the wood in the suites creaks quite a bit, so you may want to bring earplugs for night. I've not sailed the European itineraries, so I'm not sure if this is a concern, but it was my ONLY complaint about the room. I think it would be the same for all suites, not just these sideways 1-bedrooms. We looked at a regular 1-bedroom just down the hallway before we departed, and I found that our sideways room felt MUCH roomier. It will be especially nice for a longer cruise.

Agree with disneygirl55- the midship Cat T with the alternate layout feels nice and roomy. I prefer the Murphy bed in the living room since you can get to the verandah more easily when the sofa beds and Murphy beds are down. Noise is not a problem from the elevators but overhead noise can be an issue. We had an issue in the past with creaky wood but not in the Magic since the big dry dock a few years ago. The Wonder is still pretty noisy.

We stayed in one of the aft most rooms, 8102, on Magic after the refit. These rooms were changed a good bit during the modifications to the ship. These are HC rooms. If interested in these for a need, we found them roomy, but without the under bed storage. The second bathroom is huge. The veranda is huge. A very quiet spot on the ship. Very easy access to Cabanas right above you, (almost your own private stair). Cons are the noise from Cabana's chairs, possible severe vibrations from the thrusters, (depending on their use and conditions)

Building on the OP... Is there a consensus that having a one-bedroom suite mid-ship is preferred to having one (non-HCA) towards the aft?

The reason I ask is that I'm currently in 8078, but 8048 has opened up. I'm hoping to have easy access to the Concierge Lounge for morning coffees, etc. Thanks in advance!

We stayed in 8078 this past February. The room was quiet and comfortable but we had several small maintenance issues that were annoying. One of which was that the sliding door between the master shower and vanity area did not close all the way. Not good. We switched to a cat T on starboard side (8582) the following month and had no problem. The classic ships are small enough that you won't feel far from the lounge even if you stay near the aft elevators. I would just be wary of 8078 unless someone else who has sailed more recently can tell us if that room has been serviced.

Thanks for the tip! I like the idea of the "inverted" cabin, but my wife doesn't like having the Murphy bed in the parlor vs. the master bedroom, since our DS is only 4.

Great to know, thanks! I switched to 8022, since it too had opened up when I called in earlier today to verify that I was in fact seeing a half dozen rooms available all of a sudden (when I bought the tickets a few months ago, there were only 2 Cat T's available), and not just a website artifact.

I wouldn't worry about it. Our two year old slept on the Murphy Bed without any problems. If nothing else, just leave the door open.
