Hi,

I called UsAir and they said they can put my dress in the Pilots closest. My question is, is my dress consider a "carry on".? I'm only allowed 2.

Thanks!

i'm pretty sure they would consider it at carry on. Mine will be, but if you DH2B is going on the plane also he can carry around one of your extra bags. That's what we'll be doing. My dress will be in a garmet bag, and my fiance will have to carry around my duffel bag since I'll have my purse with me also.

I would double check with the airline. I know Jetblue considered my dress a carry on item.

That's what I was afraid of but like you said, my H2B will carry my extra bag and our video camera.

Thanks ladies!

when i was working as a travel agent, you were allowed 2 carry ons...but your purse or briefcase did NOT count as a carry on. they may have changed the policy since then, but i know i took my dress, purse (which was a pretty big purse) and a carry on for me. DH took his briefcase, suit, and carry on.

don't know if the policies have changed, but that's what it used to be :)

According to US Air, the dress is considered a carry on. My dress was my first item, and then instead of only having a purse; I put my purse inside my Disney Tote Bag ~ so that way I had my purse, and my plane necessities (snacks, book, travel folder, etc)

Also, when I got to the gate, I asked (very nicely) if I could pre-board because I had my wedding dress, and wanted my own overhead bin to share with my family only. The stewardess was very nice and said it was fine with her. So we boarded early, folded my dress bag in half (I flatened out as much air as I could before we got to the airport) and I put it in my overhead bin. Then my DH and the rest of my family put anything they needed to in there(under my dress) and then we closed it. I then made my DH in charge of the bin ~ if anyone opened it, he was to attack! LOL

Sorry for the ramble .. but HTH!

I was told the same thing about the closet. Well, lo and behold, when we went to board (we also pre-boarded because of the dress), the closet was 'broken'. My dress went in an overhead bin. Some guy almost took it out because he thought it was a 'real fluffy pillow'. I just about attacked him!!

I was told that JetBlue does not have a closet in which they could hang a dress. On the way down to the wedding, I actually bought my seat a dress on the plane. This worked out great, as it allowed us to bring extra luggage (welcome bag stuff that we wouldn't be bringing back) and gave me peice of mind. The cost of the plane ticket ($70) was offset by the shipping costs we didn't incur. On the way back we just stuffed my dress in an overhead compartment. I believe JetBlue allows you to check 3 bags per person/seat.

And I asked them about my dress and was told I'd have to buy a seat. Ummm, no thanks. So I am shipping it ahead to Carolyn's and they will hold it for me and bring it to my room two days before to steam it. I think that's a great idea! :bride:

I'm flying from the Uk with Virgin and think I can only have one cary on. However the skirt to my gown is made of crumpled organza - and there's a lot of skirt - so I'm thinking about putting it in a hard sided suitcase on it's own and then putting it in the hold...

I don't think I'd want to put it in a box small enough to go in an overhead and I don't want to be carrying it in a bag - my DH2B may sneak a peak!!!

I had mine in a dress bag, and I bought a second bag from the bridal shop for $10 ~ just in case a) hubby could see through and/or b) in case the bag had a tear in it from going through security, it wouldn't hurt the dress.

DH was so afraid of seeing anything, he wouldn't go near the bag! LOL :rotfl:

My dress did not count as a carry on.As some others on here have said when I flew the person that booked my tickets also promissed me the pilots closet for my dress and for husbands tux. When we boarded they told me to bad there was already a jacket hanging in there. I explained that I had been promised the closet for a wedding dress and could we ask the person whose jacket was in there if they would mind if I pu my dress in there instead. They looked at me like I had 3 heads.Needless to say it got shoved in the overhead bin along with the tux and when I got to my destination I had to find someone who could press a wedding dress with a 7' train. It all worked out but I learned a lesson. I would be prepared in case you have to put it in the overhead. If I had it to do all over again and I knew I would have to have the dress pressed I would have just shipped it ahead of time to where I was going instead of draging it through airports. Good luck to you and have a great wedding. :bounce:
