Question about California in general

I've seen on the internet that it's illegal to have your GPS unit mounted to the windshield and that you need to have a beanbag type of thing to go on the dashboard. Then I found a different website that said that they were going to vote in May 08 to change that law. Can anyone direct me to whether it's illegal or it's fine? I just spent $30.00 on a beanbag thingy and would like to return it if the suction cup I use in Texas, works just fine.

It is my understanding the windshield law was repealed(gps) needs to be afixed in a certain areas. I think you should be able to google this. I have traveled numerous times thru CA with the GPS on the windshield and have not been ticketed, not saying it is right though.

I live in California and have seen many people driving around with their GPS on the windshield. I just did a Google search and found this article that states on January 1st, GPS units can be mounted on the windshield, but only in two places:
1) Within a "seven-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield" on the passenger side, says the law.
2) Within a "five-inch square in the lower corner" on the driver's side.

You know, I think it's really lame when I see them on windshields. For me personally it's a safety thing. I don't think it would be safe to have there. But I see them all the time so it is legal, just make sure you have it where Jennifer indicated. If I had a GPS I think I'd have the beanbag thing.
